Travel Tips for Querétaro

We are a modern city, state...

by ephobius

We are a modern city, state and country. Don't expect to find people living on pyramids, traveling by burros or wearing feathers. Those Mexican stereotypes are untrue!

Picture: Hospital and highway west of the city.

Don Bartolo House

by skyhopper

Historic home with a mystery involving a wealthy merchant who made a phrophecy that he would die in something like 21 years and did, some say along with his daughter who he had an incestuos relationship with. You cannot go inside. It is now the Department of Education.

Super-Centro in Querétaro

by Ames24

Querétaro is a very nice city in Mexico's heartland, located just 3 hours by bus north of Mexico City. It is known for its large centro and its cleanness. I had the opportunity to live in the centro and explore it every day. I am sure I only scraped even the surface.

What I mean is that many Mexican towns and cities offer but one 'centro' which consists of a single cathedral and plaza. The Centro of Querétaro is a whole mini town / neighborhood in itself with countless streets. There are several plazas, cathedrals, walking alley-ways with vendors and restaurants and everything in between from people begging or shuffling along to your favorite candy stand or internet cafe.

Some restaurants around two plazas in particular have live musicians for their open-air diners and many nights even though I wasn't dining I'd just go and people watch, sit by the fountain, and enjoy the music... til past sundown or past the limit of evening chill that I could handle.

One of my favorite events of the week were the clown shows in one plaza, which were on every Sunday evening. All kinds of people, children and adults alike, crowded around for the show and a ton of laughter. Those were moments everybody could just escape real life, the cares of their world, and everything else happening for a fun time. Laughter really is up there with the best medicine ;) I miss those clown shows. Good clean fun, and good clean humor.

I could get up in the morning and go out walking from morning til evening. Great way to exercise and not feel like you're exercising!
