There is only one hostel at the time of writing this. It's a basic hostel with kitchen. There's no security but it's a quite and safe town so you can get by without lockers and even a unlocked door! It's more like a hostel is more like a house - there's no reception. The mother and son who look after the place stay in a adjacent house but use the kitchen in the hostel.
We had a palapa-roofed cabin just a few steps from the beautiful Bacalar Lagoon. It consisted of a sitting room with a single bed, a bedroom, and bathroom with a hot water shower. There was also a small patio in the front with chairs and a hammock.
Rancho Encantado is a eco-retreat specializing in laid-back, relaxing vacations.
The one thing that was so unique about the cabins is the painting on the walls.
Our bedroom and the sitting room had hand painted murals on the walls.
The one inconvenient thing about the cabins was that you never knew when the electricity might go off and stay off for awhile.
