Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The Westin Regina Resort, Cancun, was our final destination pick after narrowing the search down to 5 hotels. We feel we made the perfect choice. From the initial contact at the front desk to the final contact upon checkout, our experience at this resort was outstanding. After we checked in, we were approached by the time share hounds. The initial information was all about the hotel, what it offered and where to find it. We were given a 20% discount ticket to the restaurant along with two free drink tickets. Then came the time share spiel. It is very easy to just say no, however, after offering us a trip for two to Chichen Itza for $30 USD along with $40 USD in hotel money, we figured we couldn't lose by giving up 90 minutes of morning time. A free breakfast, some fun conversation with the presenter, and having fun with the fast talking time share wheeler/dealer was worth the time (no, we did not buy into the time share). During our 7 night stay, we had only one complaint, and that was after our first night. That first morning we left the room at around 10 AM and returned around 7 PM. We found that the room had not been entered or cleaned. Upon calling housekeeping, they knocked on our door two minutes later with 6 bath towels, 4 wash clothes, 4 hand towels along with toilet paper and a box of Kleenex. I tried to ask them how early we needed to be ready for them to clean the room in the morning, but they did not understand my question and just smiled. The next morning we left the room around the same time, but this time I left two one dollar bills on the bed along with a note saying "gracias". I also continued to do this every morning from then on. Our room was cleaned whenever we left, was always immaculate, and they even checked in on us in the evening asking if there was anything we could use. A little daily $2 tip went a long way.
We stayed in the top (6th) floor balcony room overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The views in all directions were amazing, the sound of the ocean waves soothing, and the privacy relaxing. We were able to watch the rays swim in the waves at night. Not only is the room large, the vaulted ceiling adds to the feeling. The bed that Westin is famous for lived up to its reputation as did the bath robes. Because May is a rather humid month, leaving the sliding glass door open too long made the floor feel wet, but nothing that the extra towels didn't take care of. The pools were very clean, as was the entire complex. The beaches were clean, had plenty of lounge chairs, and the waiters were eager to bring you whatever you wanted right there at the shore line. Both restaurants served great food with great service. | | | | Yalmakan Cancun Hotel And Marin: Affordable Hotel on Cancun's Strip
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The Yalmakan is an all-inclusive (AI) budget hotel. We had a two double bed room with ocean view that was clean and comfortable. There was a "balcony" that was so small you couldn't really sit on it, but the views were great. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the hotel. The rooms have: AC, Cable TV, Direct Phone, Channel Music, Attached BathRoom, Shower, Bath Tub, Shower/ Bath Tub, Mini Bar, Work Desk, Safe Deposit Box, Smoke Alarms, Sprinklers, Double Bed, King Bed
There was a massage therapist located outside so you can get a full body rub-down near the beach and ocean, talk about relaxing. 30min was approx. $50usd. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel that will take you to "downtown" Cancun where all the shops, restaurants and wild bars are. It cost 50 cents to ride! The hotel next door has an ATM machine as the Yalmakan did not. The pool w/the swimup bar was fantastic, the drinks were always ready. There was volleyball and wacky 'get to know ya' games by the other pool. And there was also a huge hot tub near the snackbar (which had great cheese fries). YOU NEED TO GET OUT TO THE DECK EARLY FOR A GOOD CHAIR SPOT, the deck fills up fast! And finally, this was an all-inclusive hotel and the best buffet was in the morning with pancakes, eggs, omelets, hash browns, sausages and bacon, oh this list is long. Great buffet to start out the day! Leave a Comment

Located in Cancun, right on the Caribbean Sea and in the heart of the Hotel Zone, this hotel is conveniently located, within walking distance of most things, and just steps away from shopping, restaurants and the best nightlife in Cancun. The hotel's unique seafront location on the tip of the Cancun peninsula offers stunning views of the sea. The hotel is a circular shaped structure that offers great views, no matter the location of your room! Leave a Comment

 | | | | Presidente InterContinental Cancun Resort: Best Beach in the Hotel Zone
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The Hotel Presidente is touted as one of the 5 star resorts in the hotel zone. I would agree that it is a great resort, but I'm not entirely sure I would agree with the 5 star rating. The hotel's architecture is modern, and not particularly beautiful, but the lobby is pretty. The rooms are on the small side, but clean and have a tropical feel, but are a little loud. We had a nice view of the lagoon and were grateful that we were further down the strip than most of the major resorts because we could somewhat hear the clubs at night. If we could hear them I cannot imagine how loud they are if you’re staying at a hotel closer. The hotel has a bus stop right outside, but is also a relatively easy walk to Daddy O’s, Plaza Caracol, Senor Frogs, Carlos and Charlie’s and the Hard Rock Café. There is a little shopping plaza across the street with a few local taco stands, a pharmacy and a supermarket. The staff is nice and helpful. If you use the concierge to book your restaurant reservations she will usually give you a coupon for “welcome drinks” at most places in town. DO BEWARE the hotel has a strict policy forbidding outside food and drink from entering the building. They do not tell you about this policy upon check in and if they see you bringing in any outside food or beverages they will stop you at the door and confiscate it. We found this out prior to our arrival through customer complaints, and because my friend walked into the lobby with an open can of Coke which they promptly “threw away” for her. My advice is to hide your provisions in your beach bag to get them into the building, as everything is overpriced at the hotel. It was the way we were able to circumvent this annoying rule. Also be aware that they have a $17 a day charge per room for tips and reef preservation, so while you’re at the hotel it’s not necessary to tip. Overall I enjoyed our stay here. I was annoyed by the no outside food and drink policy but thankfully aware of it so I was able to maneuver around it.
The Presidente has two fabulous pools. Have a drink at the pool bar if you get a chance. I must say that in my opinion they also have the best beach in the Hotel Zone. The water is shallow and calm with two designated swimming areas and an area for water sports. You are allowed to swim past the buoys at your own discretion where the water gets deeper, just watch out for waverunners and boats. We saw loads of starfish, but there’s not really much else to see in the water – so you don’t need to bring your snorkel equipment out here. The white sand beach is long and wide. There are hotel employees out on he beach to get and set up your beach chairs and waiters wander to serve drinks and food. And they also organize games of beach volleyball throughout the day. Check out the activities list by the beach concierge (where you can get your fresh beach towels) if you’re interested in doing some yoga or playing some cricket, etc. They also have tennis courts past the upper pool. Don’t forget to check out the resident Iguanas sunning themselves in the makeshift lagoon between the pools. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Moon Palace Golf Resort: Incredible beachside resort
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I booked Moon Palace because the brochure said every room had a twin jacuzzi and the idea appealed to me :-) The funny thing is, we used that jacuzzi only once as there is so much else to do in the resort that you just don't have the time (anyway, it's so huge that it takes forever to fill, lol). The resort is large, spacious, and luxurious. It was my first time doing the all-inclusive thing and I had been warned by friends and travel agents that this might lead to sloppy food and cheap drink standards. The warnings proved fruitless - standards at moon Palace are extremely high in every respect. The hotel is divided into two seperate properties on the same grounds, and we figure that one was mainly for members (i.e. those woning timeshares in the resort) and the other was for all the rest of us. Initially I longed to stay in the other part of the hotel, but as the holiday went on I was glad I was staying where I was as the other part of the hotel was perhaps too big! There are so many restaurants and bars in the hotel that you could stay there a month and never get bored. Each restaurant was different, which was great, as often big hotels will have many restaurants but all serving the same thing (which was not the case in moon Palace). The rooms are very large, very spacious, clean and well-equipped. There are plenty of huge picture windows in every room, giving great views of the pretty gardens or the beach and sea. All hotel guests are given one or more free day trips included in the all inclusive package. I would have to recommend the boat trip to Islas Mujeras which was amazing - I could write a whole review on that day trip alone! I had heard of Cancun as being full of screaming teenagers, but the Moon Palace is situated about 20 mins drive from Cancun on a practically private beach area (beaches are public, but so secluded that no outsiders go there). You know, I can't think of any downside to this resort.
The facilities are extensive - truly an entirely self-contained resort. I am adding a link to the hotel website, but need to warn you that the website is offputting and does nothing to reflect the tru quality and beauty of this resort.
