by elgarbo The Gran Costa Real is far from the most luxurious resort in the hotel zone. However, if you're on a bit of a budget (like we were) you can't go past it. The rooms are large, the beds are comfortable, the pool is huge and the beach golden. A team of dedicated young staff lead a whole bunch of different activities, from Spanish lessons, to beach volleyball, to nightly nightclub tours. These guys truly excel at their job, always so enthusiastic, funny and competitive. The all inclusive deal is good value as long as you ensure that you eat all your meals at the resort, and then take good advantage of one of the several bars. The beer on tap is Dos Equis, so don't sign up expecting anything else. A VIP area for those on the all inclusive deal is upstairs, but it's not particularly luxurious. A few pool tables are nice, but the self service food here is simply atrocious - stick to the restaurants downstairs. There are a few other negatives that need noting. The beach is small - you'll need to get down there early in the morning if you want to get a deckchair. However, there are always a few chairs vacant by the pool if you're desperate for some sun. The food is okay, but certainly nothing to write home about. However, if you want a good time, head down the beach bar of an evening. Its no Coco Bongo, but the atmosphere is healthy, plenty of alcohol is consumed and you're certain to meet an interesting new friend or two.
So you think a big resort is hardly the place for an adventure? You think wrong. A few things to try if you're game: - stealing towels from the second floor linen closet without getting caught. - starting a game of beach cricket in the dark with random strangers. - chatting up the cute waitresses in either of the restaurants.

A room with a view by Clyde13 The service was absolutly excellent! You could have drinks and food brought to your room, by the pool, or on the beach. Your glass was never empty! The rooms were quite lovely. They had; a large flat screen tv, a dvd player, a gigantic shower, balcony overlooking the pool or beach, and a king size bed. All the rooms for two people cost the same, but some have a large gazebo type balcony, which I would highly recommend requesting.
The spa had a jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. There's a small gym upstairs and you can also get a massage, but thought they were too pricey for my taste. The entertainment staff organizes games all day and provides transportation to popular clubs at night. If you love beach volleyball as I do, you can catch a game twice a day. They also have water polo and pool volleyball. Theme: HotelComparison: about averageDirections: Across from La Boom between downtown and the hotel district.
