Flamingo rooms
Smaller hotel but clean. All inclusive was worth the money. The food was much better than Adventura and Oasis. Drinks where not watered down ( tips help ) They have standard rooms, suites, 6th floor superior and the Victoria suite. The regular suites and Victoria suite guarantee an ocean view. Both the regular and the superior have ocean view and street view. book a suite and when you get there ask if an ocean view superior is available' If so it runs $30.00 more a night. If you book a reg room ask for an oceon front, if you don't get it, come back to the front desk and ask to be put on the list for ocean front. a $10 won't hurt either If you don't get it that day you will the next. Two restaurants, pool grill, pool bar and regular bar. Service was good, clean hotel with 2 nice pools.

i stayed at the Flamingo Cancun hotel. It's a nice hotel, even though the beds were a bit small for 2 people. It has 3 swimming pools: one for kids (very shallow), one beachfront (about 5ft?) and one in the middle of the hotel (4ft?). It is beachfront, it has two restaurants and a gift shop.
i think the regular rate was $110USD per nite
not sure if the price is the same for peak-season, but we definetely did not pay that rate with the all-inclusive package.
Unique Quality: We got a pretty good package deal, an all inclusive package (breakfast, lunch and dinner). They have those packages year round.

Hotel Suggestions
I have been looking into Cancun area hotels at all of the online sites - Expedia, Orbitz, etc. and can't seem to find what I am looking for. Can anyone recommend a quaint hotel that is fairly quiet (but with some fun!), on the beach, with tropical surroundings, close to shopping, and fairly cheap? We are not really into the huge resorts, but want to be close to the beach.

OMG, and what about a Limo with 2 babes in it waiting for you at the airport??????
LOL, seriously, you're not going to find such thing. All of the hotels by the beach are big resorts. There are a few, such as the Sunset lagoon, which might be more or less what you want but it's not on the beach and it's not "fairly cheap" -- and besides you MUST pay the all inclusive program apart from the accomodation. You either will have to go into a big resort - in order to be by the sea - or try to find something cheap closer to downtown but away from the beach and the tropical surroundings.

Flamingo Cancun would be your best bet and fits your requirements, all inclusive. Check out my VT pages. Stayed at Flamingo 4 out of 7 times. Do expect hard beds ( and thats the majority of hotels on the strip), decent food and a lively but controlled bar at night with decent music. No spring breakers.
