Inexpensive, but ok hotel/condo. Try Girasol, etc.
Try www.stayincancun.com, they have hotels in the hotel zone from $65/nt. in the fall, but they charge an extra $40 fee for less than a 4 night's stay. Maybe they will come down in price, if they have last minute openings, if you ask, it's worth a try- it's the slow season- hurricane season! They have condos in a number of places, and low prices.
Unique Quality: The condos are all on the beach, in different locations, and they all have pools. From the ones I have stayed at, they have either kitchens or kitchenettes, and other extras like air conditioning, cable tvs and more. The condos are studios to penthouses, in Solymar, Salvia, Yamalkan, Villas Marlin, Girasol, Carisa Y Palma, and Blue Bay Club. They have great beaches, some with seaviews, and all but Blue Bay are in the hotel zone. Girasol, Salvia, and Carisa are next to the hot spot area of Cancun- Cocobongos, restaurants, and shops. The prices vary, but are very reasonable. MP
