Hotel Paradise: Close to Paradise

We stayed at a hotel called Paradise. The hotel itself was OK. We had a room with some kitchen equipment in it so that we could at least make some breakfast there. There was a nice pool in the garden of the hotel that we used quite a lot. We did have trouble getting used to the noisy air condition (so we only used the fan) and the hard beds. The location wasn't too bad either. It was maybe 300-400 meters down to the beach and about the same to get to the main street in Playa del Carmen (called 5th avenue).

Iberostar Paraiso Beach Resort

Iberostar Paraiso Beach Resort

This location was brand new and had the biggest pool I've ever seen. It wanders like a river with large pools along the way. It must be 2-300 meters long.
Resort has a total of 8 restaurants. 4 of them (Japanese, Argentinian, Mexican and Mediterranean) require reservations and that you dress for dinner. There are also 2 large buffets at the main resort and 2 large buffets at the pool/beach area. The food up at the main buildings was available almost any time and the food was great. Down at the pool/beach buffets, you get fast food at lunch. Great hot dogs and french fries !!! The resort provides entertainment nightly in the theatre. The theatre must hold 1000 people and the entertainment and staff are the best. Best staff member - Phillipe, the head bartender.

I stayed at the Club Med,...

I stayed at the Club Med, which was in the final stages of a major remodel. It was my first time at a Club Med, so I didn't exactly know what to expect. All I can say is -- yeah! It was a LOT of fun. I met lots of people, right away, some of which I'm still in touch with to this day.

Of course, Club Med is an all-inclusive, so meals are included with the room. The total price was, after taxes and extras, ~$1400 for one week. Considering that included the airfare, that wasn't too bad a deal.

In Playa del Carmen We stayed...

In Playa del Carmen We stayed at Cabanas La Ruina, in Street 2. Very cheap for the location (375 pesos per night for a cabana with private bathroom and right on the beach) but it included resident cockroach, mind you.

In Merida we booked the Hotel Caribe, right in Parque Hidalgo, in the centre of the city.
Hotel Caribe has rooms with fan from around 300 pesos per night. Larger rooms and those with air conditioning facilities are less cheap.

If your budget is a bit more decent, there are plenty of lovely hotels all along the beach at Playa del Carmen. It was high season and they had plenty of vacancies, so I would recommend just to pop in and have a look around.

The hotel in Merida was a 17th century convent and it keeps lots of original features. The roof pool though is a very useful addition after all that sightseeing.

I found the staff very helpful...

I found the staff very helpful and friendly. The room was abit basic, but it was spotless and cleaned properly everyday. The food here was spot on.The breakfast here was great. It was a buffet breakfast and chefs were cooking things fresh all the time. The choice was exellent. They had fresh friut, cerael, bread and toast, ommelettes, sausages, chips, tomatoes, bacon.Everything that you could possibly want.
This is one of the beaches at our hotel'Club Las Velas'.It was great. This was the quiet beach and the other beach was the action beach. Our room was just opposite the beach and the bar,GREATTT...:
I enjoyed the Mexican restuarant too.The service was good here also.Plenty of good food and plenty of choice.

Our hotel was on the hotel...

Our hotel was on the hotel zone and it was on The Nichupte lagoon side. The Caribbean sea was a 5 minute walk away.I found this hotel one of the best ive stayed in.The gardens were amazing and the lagoon beaches(2 of them)were very nice too.One was the party beach and the other was the quiet beach.I found this good because you could choose if you wanted action and noise or you wanted just to relax and enjoy peace.
Here is the beautiful hotel we stayed at .The hotel had wonderful tropical gardens and fountains and was very relaxing. There were 5 bars,5 restaurantss,2 pools and 2 beaches.PARADISE..
