RUINS OF TULUM

by LoriPori

Monday, January 24, 2005.
Hans and I took local buses to TULUM. After making a stop in Play Del Carmen, it was another 39 miles, or 63 Km south.
Tulum is Mayan for "WALL" and dates to the period A.D. 900. The seaside archeological site of Tulum was once known as the "City of the Dawn". It is the only Mayan port city ever discovered and features more than 60 well-preserved buildings to explore, like the Castle, The Temple of the Wind God, Temple of the Descending God and Temple of the Frescoes God.
Also there is a wonderful beach "Papaya Playa" which many people were enjoying.
For more information, please visit my TULUM pages.

Umm, Midget Wrestling???

by GGPrice

Hi, im sure this a highly irregular question to ask but please bear with me..
A large party are about to descend on Cancun to attend a wedding there, and i have been reluctantly put in charge of organising the inevitable stag do.
The Groom is adamant that it be as wacky and 'far out' as possible, and i have heard of a mexican wrestling league in which the protaganists are 'little people' (trying to make this as politically correct as i can)!
I have also heard that said league is popular among the locals and highly entertaining..In short (pardon), I could'nt think of a better way to spend an alcohol induced evening!!
Any info would be really appreciated, or indeed any other suggestions you may have on how to entertain 25 inebriated Welshmen!! Cheers..

I believe the wrestling is part of what is known as Luche Libre in Mexico. Here is some info:

I've been to lucha libre multiple times in Mexico, never in Cancun...bound to be a great night! I've also never seen ONLY little people, did see a team of little people and transvestites...awesome.
Another really fun thing to look into: Coco Bongo's. Night club and show all in one. One of the craziest bars I've ever been to. You can pay one price that will include: transportation, cover and drinks. Ask around once you get to your hotel.

Agree with Lauren, Coco Bongo is crazy fun place. Just a thought though. Although the drinks are included, they have ladies (waitresses), walking around agressively offering shots, and then demanding payment. Just have your wits about you, and you'll have a blast.

Travel Tips for Cancún

by dutch-tulips

Go parasailing. The views from up there is beautiful. My best indulgence while there. If you are afraid to go by yourself they also offer a two seater so someone can hold your hand while you fly in the air. Don't do it if you are afraid of heights since you soar higher than the hotels.

Ruins

by Maria_75

There are a few ruins out at the hotel zone and at Isla Mujeres, but they are not as big or impressing as many others in the area. The most famous site is Chichén Itzá. It is about 3 hours from Cancun, and is definetly worth a trip! Another great place is the ruins in Tulum. They are about 2 hours away, but the site is not as big as the ones in Chichén Itzá.

Cancun is all about the pool...

by hajin

Cancun is all about the pool to the beach to the pool to the room (for a siesta) and then back to the pool. You'll find pretty elaborate pools at all the major hotels--many also have waterfalls. This is a big Spring Break spot--enough said.

BRING LOTSA SINGLES!!!

by jilldj

...meaning $1 bills.

workers (esp those working in hotels, restaurants and shows) appreciate tips from tourists. they are very hard workers but get paid very little so try to be generous and you will feel great about it :-)

tip more if you get exceptional service (from waiters particularly) esp in an all-inclusive hotel.
