Warning, fraudulent timeshare sales tactics!

I need to warn travelers about this place, I have stayed in other hotels in cancun,(I go every year), but this is the worst. First I think the all-inclusive is so far below other hotels, I ate out every day instead. I travel with kids, and they do not have any accomodations for kids. (so far Crown Paradise Club is best in that area). The room was good, but that depends on wich way your room is facing, some of the rooms are awful, with a bad view. The facilities in general are just, again the worst I have seen in cancun.
But here is the big problem. I was absolutely TORMENTED by the timeshare sales. They even use illegal and fraudulent sales tactics! They tell you that it is a good investment, wich it is absolutely not, they draw up a rental plan, were you can make money by letting them rent your share out for you, but then they dont. They PROMISE an annual value increase by 10%, and tell you that they will by it back at increased value, but they will never buy it back. This is fraud. They make you sign a waiver of the 5-day cooling of period, THIS IS ILLEGAL.
I recommend that anyone stays away from this hotel, unless you want to spend your vacation suffering.

-3 STAR MOTEL

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!! WE STAYED AT THIS HOTEL AND IT MADE MY VACATION HORRIBLE. WE CALLED IT THE DUNGEON. WE HAD A LOVELY VIEW OF THE SHED. SO WE ASKED FOR A BETTER ROOM. THEY MOVED US TO ANOTHER DUNGEON WITH A LOVELY VIEW OF THE HALL. THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS HOTEL WAS THE BOAT RIDE TO THE SUNSET ROYAL. ---BE CAREFUL ABOUT THE $10 US TAX THEY TRY TO CHARGE YOU WHEN YOU CHECK OUT.

Do Not go to Sunset Lagoon!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Me and my friends just got back from the sunset lagoon in Cancun. Let me tell you guys the service was not good at all, the food was horrible and was the same thing day after day. The room service food was pretty good but everytime we would order it we would get hassled on the amount of food that we were allowed to order. The pool is nice and the sister hotel is very nice, but overall the sunset lagoon was not very nice. We ordered room service one day and it never came! Our room had no a/c and the lights in the washroom did not work and when we asked them to replace the light bulbs, guess what they never replaced them! So i would say spend the extra couple of hundred bucks and stay somewhere else.

Loved the Sunset Lagoon

We thought the Sunset Lagoon hotel was a great place for our family. We found the accomodations very clean, friendly and well landscaped. The only negative was that the beds were very hard (which is not our preference). My 10 year old daughter made plenty of friends and had lots to do at any given time. The food was good and our room service experience was very positive. The biggest bonus is that you can shuttle over to the sister hotel, Royal Sunset, for free and have all of the same all-inclusive benefits as you had at the Sunset Lagoon. It was like having 2 hotels for the price of one! We would definitely return and we would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Us chicks loveeeeeeeeee Sunset Lagoon!!!

The second year, we steped off the airplane and felt the magic. This was our second year at Sunset Lagoon. We counted down the days to go back and experience the best place ever again. The staff was amazing and made every monent exciting. The staff goes with you to a different club every night, and will help you get back to the hotel if you need them to. The food is great and Rudy is at your service at all times. The rooms are very clean and nicely set up. It's very relaxing and makes you feel at home. We wish Sunset Lagoon could be our home. The second we left we started counting down the days for next year when we could experience it again. WE LOVE YOU SUNSET LAGOON --------Jackie and Katie

We spent 4 nights at sunset lagoon. Sunset lagoon is quite excellent hotel considering the price. We had a great time at the hotel. The hotel was much better than I though from the review. The food was delicious, shows were great and everyone was very kind. We had full course intalian dinner with wine. They served unlimited wine, beer and coffee. But, the hotel has some problem as pointed out by other reviews. The bed was not good. My room was close to the road. At night it was too noisy to sleep. If you get a room to laggon side, I recommend this hotel.

Great time

We stayed for 2 weeks and we had a wonderful time. The hotel is very nice, clean and the staff was very friendly. The foot was delicious and I am sure, that everybody will find something to eat, what he likes. The rooms are very nice. But we are recommending to book the rooms to the Lagoon side. The annimation is fine. They have a nice team there. It is good to use the other hotel SunSet, but we prefer to stay in SunSet Lagoon. It is more familar. But if you like to visit the SunSet you can take the hotel bus or the hotel motor boat. It was great. We are planing to go back next year. We had no problems with time sharing! But this hotel is known for this.

Fantastic! Gorgeous!

Our family really enjoyed our vacation last May at the Sunset Lagoon. The all-inclusive is fantastic! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is awesome, and the staff are super-friendly and helpful! We already have our reservations to return again this year. The best bartender is Serrafino and the best waitress is Irma. But you won't be dissapointed by any of the staff. The hotel has a wonderful two-level pool with an awesome swim-up bar that overlooks the lagoon and marina. There are vendors on the beach, but they don't approach you or pressure you to buy. The suite rooms have a kitchenette and living/bedroom area that has all tile floors... beautiful! Every room has a balcony with a view. We can't wait to get back there!!

Great fun for everyone!!

A great family place - value priced

by A TripAdvisor Member

We (Mom, Dad, 7 & 4) stayed at the Sunset Lagoon March 30-April 6. Overall we had an excellent vacation. The Staff is wonderful, our room clean the the drinks and food plentiful. Don't go expecting the Ritz! It is more "Eurpean" feel -- small rooms, small number of guests etc. The food is basic buffet -- a little bit of everything, The evening entertainment was spetecular on several nights, high school variety show levl on other nights. The "kids activities" are very unstructured - don't go expecting to drop the kids off for a formal program for a couple of hours. Although they all got a lot of attention from the staff. The pool is very nice, no one was swimming in the lagoon, but a great beach across the street or you can jump on the hourly shuttle over to the sister hotel. We only got asked once to go on the timeshare presentaion. On the down side - our room was situated very close to the main Cancun road - which never shuts down, so it was rather loud traffice noise at any hour.

Sunset Lagoon resort & marina Cancun /Fishermans Village resort on the Mayan

We are looking for a small all inclusive resort and have heard about these.

Can anyone share any insight about either of these. We were in Vallarta last year and need to be on the other side for a wedding further south at the Grand Palladium but do not know the area.

Any input is welcome.
