This is an all-inclusive resort. I had heard horrible reviews about the place and was a bit nervous about our accomodations. When we arrived, I was a bit put out that we could not get into our rooms until 3:30, (It was 9:30 am) but the staff was friendly and took our luggage. If the Dive House was not across the street and we were not storing our dive gear there, I might have been more annoyed. The rooms were large and the a/c was FREEZING! This is Mexico and so it was not fancy. I'm sure that this hotel was the best back in the 1970's. But again, the staff was great and that makes all the difference. I was there to dive not lounge around the hotel. The buffet was nothing to write home about, but it was filling and after all day on the boat, I just wanted to eat and go to bed. The drinks were quite strong, even if the selection was a bit limited. If I had not been there to dive, I might have found fault in this hotel, but as my days were very occupied, I thought it was very relaxing not to have to worry about what to eat, where, and how to get there. It was nice also to have paid a flat rate and not to have to worry about how much vacation money was being spent on food and drinks.
The view was amazing! I loved that the Dive House was across the street, it was as if I could fall out of bed and go diving! I did think that the price that we paid was a bit much, but it was more of the fault of the travel agent we booked with than the hotel. | | | | Presidente Inter-Continental: I could live here | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Lovely hotel with its own private beach- great for swimming or just laying out while a waiter gets you a Margarita. If swimming in the gorgeous warm turquoise bay is not your style, there is also a heated pool and spa overlooking the beach. All rooms have a private balcony or patio with a fantastic ocean view. Many tours will pick you up at their private dock. The hotel is a few kms out of town which may be a hiderance to some, but taxis are available around the clock. -just watch out for the big king daddy iguanas that seem to be everywhere!
Private beach, beautiful views, pool, spa, not in town but close enough so its still accesible. | | | | El Marques Hotel: Decent budget hotel in the center of San Miguel | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We went to Cozumel without hotel reservations - it was the low season and we wanted to check out accommodations in person before choosing them. I had a list of several to look at. We chose El Marques for its location (1/2 block off plaza and one block from oceanfront - although there is no beach) and the price - under $30 a night with airconditioning and a small refrigerator. They gave us a 10% discount because we stayed seven days, and the family that runs the hotel was extremely helpful. Downstairs is a car/moped rental company.
Proximity to the plaza, where there were restaurants, shopping, lots of people to talk to, and live music almost every night was the biggest plus. The hotel is nothing fancy, but it was clean, with daily maid service, had a nice tile shower, air conditioning, two beds, a small balcony, a refrigerator - we found two grocery stores - one by the plaza and one on the main street going down towards the museum.
