boat transfer
by Lauz
We travel to Cozumel in a few weeks time. Fly into Cancun and then get a boat transfer to the island. Does anyone know how long this trip takes? I'm not the best on boats so hoping it won't take that long! Also, how is the water? usually choppy or calm? Thanks!

There are a two options to Cozumel. They are from Playa del Carmen that take about 30 minutes, they will be quite calm, usually. You can also fly if you want

Boat trip does not take that long (about 30-45 min). If you get seasick, just be sure to carry some Bonine with you and drink it about an hour before you gn the boat. I prefer Bonine to Dramamine (you don't get as drowsy). Have fun!

The posts were right, 30-45 minutes. There are 2 ferry companies and they share the departures, if one departs at 1pm, the other has the 2pm. They will try to sell you a round trip ticket...don't buy that since if you want to return at 4pm...this company may only has a 5pm departure...just buy one way, it is the same price ;)
Travel Tips for Isla Cozumel
Plan Your Time Wisely in Cozumel
by andy3k
Most stores and street vendors open at 9 am and close at 5 pm. Most tourist restaurants (Carlos n Charlie's, Senor Frog, Hard Rock Cafe, Subway, Burger King, The Shrimp Bucket) open at 10 am and close at either 5 pm (just food) or late at night (if they have a bar). Ask your host/hostess the day before if you want to eat an early breakfast or a decent late dinner. They can probably guide you to a place that is open at the time you want. The best times to visit "party" places like Carlos n Charlie's and Senor Frog are between 11 am and 4 pm, when the cruise ship tourists are flocking in, and late at night on Friday and Saturday (or so we were told). It's amazing how dead the "party" restaurants are at all other times (for those who are trying to avoid the crowds).
You may fish, swim, and snorkel any time you want. The private beaches (which are usually free or $5 to get in as long as you eat and drink there) are busiest during the day hours when the cruise ship tourists are hanging out. If you want to see lots of hard bodies and buxom beauties, 10 am to 3 pm is your timeframe. If you'd prefer to have a relatively quiet beach to yourself, visit outside of those times. This information is for Cozumel; Playa del Carmen beaches may be different.
For Divers only

The island of cozumel is small with very few ruins for sight seeing. The beaches are nice and the people (outside of the marketplace) are friendly, but the main attraction to this island is the diving. World Class. Water as clear as a pool, vibrant colors and a wide variety of marine life. If you get the chance definately take the time to dive "the Devils throat". A coral tunnel that starts at 65 ft and comes out at 135 ft. Water so clear that at even 135 ft you could still see the boat circling above.
But, alas, like all good trips...

But, alas, like all good trips (bad ones too) they come quickly to an end. Here is Barbara looking wistfully at the bridge in New Orleans after we woke up on the last morning. She's wondering where all of the crystal clear, azure blue water went that she was seeing just the day before. All that is left is the muddy water of the great Mississippi River and a short drive home. I would recommend all of you get away and relax NOW... And if you can't get away at the moment .... well .... just relax .... Now let me go get my car out of hock so I can drive home. WHAT? $80.00 just to pick up my car. You've got to be kidding? And ... well ... the stress begins again :-)
Then you have to seek out...

Then you have to seek out appropriate entertainment (again choosing your travelling companions wisely) that is suitable to everyone and designed to provide maximum pleasure. Notice the clapping as an example :-))
Milk in boxes, unrefrigerated eggs

IT IS OK TO EAT THESE THINGS, really!
Also try out other local flavors. Go to the grocery store and pick something out that you can't get at home.
The ice, on the other hand, may be questionable. You can request drinks without it. This may be an urban myth, but supposedly lime juice squeezed in your drink should kill some bacteria.
Wipe off cans or bottles that have been sitting in ice to chill before putting them to your mouth.
