Complete rip-off, with Noise & Construction
by janicii about Casa De Los Suenos Resort And S
We arrived at this beautiful location only to be immediately confronted with a giant construction project to the left. 14 workers with chain saws, concrete saws, and skill saws, constantly destroying the mood. All starting at 7:30-8 am. Ranchero music playing on the boom boxes competed with the subtle Enya music playing throughout the hotel speakers at the pool.
We tried to endure for two days, with increasing frustration...especially at the $350 price tag being charged.
We finally decided we needed to get out of there and the staff
was not helpful in either negotiating a solution or helping us find a new place to stay.
This was a trip we had planned and looked forward to for 6 months.
The disappointment is still with us. Obviously, we would not recommend this hotel until they have some fair advertising or close down during the construction. All that is memorable, after a ruined stay, is the noise, construction, and the feeling of being entirely ripped off.
The best hotel we've ever stayed in

This place is AMAZING! We stumbled across this hotel by accident in our golf cart, and let me tell you, we didn't want to leave. We were lucky enough to get a room as there are only eight rooms I think, each one unique. All look over the crystal clear water, the pool, and the dock way down below. The hotel is up on a hill across the street from the water. Roberto is your host, (he runs it with his sister, who we didn't meet). And you can have a cocktail with him every night watching the sunset. There is snorkling, kayaking, and above all...tranquility! This place should be called a wellness resort rather than a hotel. And yes, there is a spa on the grounds. There is a wonderful restaurant on the water that is part of the hotel, it blends asain and mexican foods, and is great! Everyone there is very friendly and the other guests we met had been coming there for years, from around the globe. Definitely check this place out.
Great little island in Mexico

"Isla Mujeres"
This is a little island off the coast of the hustling and bustling Cancun. Definitely way way laid back (rent a golf cart upon arrival), and if you can stay at Casa de los Suenos, it is well worth the trip from anywhere in the world. There is a downtown/market area for all your tourist needs, but once you go south, prepare for a secluded, romantic trip. We planned on spending a day there after an exausting trip to Cancun, and ended up changing our flight and staying for four more days, just because of our hotel.
"Food"
The food is exactly what you want, tacos, salsa, ceviche, etc.

See my tip. Simply the best!

January Travel to Isla Mujeres
by BigWhisk
We have a January 8th trip planned to Isla Mujeres and plans to stay at Hotel Na Balam. Does anyone have a reliable resource to check the conditions following Wilma? I cannot get a response from the hotel and suspect communications may still be down. thx!

Some friends returned Saturday. They say the island is now 2 islands due to tidal surge. Their house is VERY damaged.

I am sure things will be nice by January. My understanding is that there was major damage in the midriff lagoon (right through my old neighborhood!!!) but have no reason to think that Na Balam is damaged much.

If they are slow or down, try them later.

Here are some pictures of damage on Isla...damage I would term EXTREMELY minimal and typical. Some of these look worse than they are. The tiles, for instance, are no big deal. Palapa roofs can be replaced in a day or two and should be replaced every decade or so anyway. The sandy streets look bad, but several of the Playa Norte streets are already sand...no problem.
Many of the houses shown intact here are in VERY vulnerable places and show no structure problems.
The beach with the sand piled up to the windows of the blue and white kiosk is North Beach...the shot is 100 yards from Na Balam. Too much sand is not a problem...last big blow took the sand away, which was ugly and sad.
Things don't look very bad at all

I just came back from a very nice vacation on Isla staying in a not expensive mid-island colourful and fully furnished apartment. They fixed all the damages very quickly. I definitely recommend the place.
