 | Isla Mujeres Hotel Posada Del Mar Reviews | 1 - 4 of 4 | |
We stayed at Del Mar for a nearly a week, then moved. Our room was one of the free standing cabanas in the back which was ok. Several LARGE la cucharachas (cockroaches) in the room till we plugged the drains. No kitchen or fridge was a downer. Very simple room. Good AC. We quickly got tired of the poolside bar scene with loud, drunk Americans. If we wanted that, we'd go to Myrtle Beach. We have a 10 year old so we hung out less at the pool because of the scene. We were MUCH happier when we moved to Elements of the Island on Av. Juarex. My major NEGATIVE comment is that my Swiss Army Knife was taken from my room, I'm assuming by someone on the housekeeping staff. I reported this to the front desk and they said, "Oh, we are not responsible for housekeeping..." UPDATE JUNE 22, 2005 THIS HOTEL HAS YET TO RESPOND TO MY STOLEN SWISS ARMY KNIFE. DO NOT STAY WITH THESE SWINE.

Hotel Pool by travelingbunny This is a nice hotel in a great location, right near the "downtown" area and across the street from the beach. The rooms are very large and clean, if a bit sparsely furnished. But thats ok, you're not in the carribean to lounge around the room. The hotel also has a lovely pool and outdoor bar area. The only problem is that the revelry around the bar area goes on till quite late (2 or 3 am )and the rooms have NO soundproofing. It was impossible to sleep in my room which was on the 2nd floor about 60m from the area. There are cabana type rooms right around the pool/bar area and I can't imagine how they ever got any shut eye. SO, to sum up -I would recommend this hotel if you can get a room on the otherside of the place, far away from the pool area. OR alternatively, if you are someone who would be up partying at the pool area anyway.
Fantastic location, really lovely pool.

Pool and Romy and Miguel's Bar w/ swings by ricknkat, 1 more photos I didn't stay here this time but I scoped it out really well for next time. The price and location are fantastic and the pool is super swanky with an arched aquaduct that mimics Cortez's famous hacienda in Morelos. The rates are between $52 and $88 depending on the season, with the price bumping up to $98 for the week between X-mas and New Years. I was able to walk up to the bar, get a drink and leisurely hang out by the pool like I owned the place. They didn't appear to have any pool nazis like they do at the pool next to Sunset Grille. The location is the most amazing part- this place is literally accross the street from the hopping west beach, and only a few hundred yards from the slightly more snooty North Beach. The restaurant that abuts the hotel is called Pinguino's (penguin), and has some great food and drink deals with open air tables that overlook the beach. It was our favorite lunch spot for a huge plateful of thin beef steak with rice and beans for $6.
Perfect location/ nice pool you can sneak in to.

We've stayed here for the past 3 years, and will stay again in '07. It is the not the best value on the island. 1) You can find cheaper downtown-some of those places even have refrigerators. However, the noise level in the main downtown area at night can be a problem for some. 2) You can find larger places with more amenities outside of town for the same price, but you won't be this close to downtown/main beach. The location is the absolute best! Posada is within walking distance to everything in the the main area, which includes downtown and North Beach. There's nothing fancy about Posada. If you're comfortable in a Motel6 or equivalent you will do just fine. You might have to wait a while for the water to get warm, or slam the door for it to close, but if you have a little patience, all is good in the world! The maids are awesome! Our rooms were spotless, towels/sheets changed every day. We always had a fresh bouquet of flowers picked from the gardens waiting for us in our room when we returned. There are 2 buildings on the property. The Main and the New. I have stayed at both and most definitely prefer the Main building. The Main faces the beach; Newer building has the same amenities (just "newer"), and faces the bar area. The first time we stayed here, we requested a 3rd story (top) room for the view in the Main building. It was lovely, but believe me, 3 flights of stairs is a lot after hours in the sun. Plus, the palms are very tall and block most of the view anyway. The 2nd time we stayed, we requested the 1st floor of the Main building. Magnificent! The beach was right there in front of us, and the hotel restaurant was just a few steps away. The last time we went we tried the newer building. It just wasn't the same. I strongly recommend the older building (quiter/better views) - first or second story!
We always request a King Size bed (most come with either a King or two Doubles). All rooms have Cable TV as well as A/C (powerful!), and of course private toilet/shower. No refrigerators - we didn't miss this at all. We brought a small collapsible cooler for beer and the bar at the hotel packed it full of ice for us whenever we asked. Posada del Mar has a nice pool. The interior of the pool could stand to be painted, though. The washed out pool makes it look dirty, but it's not. I've seen staff cleaning the pool often, and the water is clear and chlorinated. The pool is in the same area as the bar. We've spent a few nice afternoons and evenings in this area, when we feel the need to escape from the stressful, beach life of a tropical island. ;) Really nice place to spend a late afternoon diving in the pool and relaxing in the hammocks. The drinks here are a little pricier than those you can find at the smaller places downtown...go for happy hour, when you can get two drinks for the price of one (5pm to 7pm every night). Rent a golf cart from the front desk. During our few stays, we've priced the carts both on our own and throgh the Posada. If you book through the Posada the night before, the cart will be waiting for you in the parking lot of the hotel when you wake up - hassle-free and at the same cost you would have paid going to pick it up yourself. Posada del Mar offers a security safe for guests at teh front desk. The deposit is US$80. We used this to store our important documents and extra emergency cash when we arrived. All worked out just fine. 1/2 block South from the hotel is a "Mini Super," which is the equivalent of a 7-11 - lots of jiuces, smokes, snacks, beer, etc. We ended up here at least once per day! Tip: Head up the extra flight or two of stairs to visit the rooftop of the hotel - the views are amazing! Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: From the ferry, cross the street (Medina). Turn left (North) and walk down 4 small blocks. Posada del Mar will be located on the right, the street after you pass the "Mini Super." You can't miss the Archway that says "Posada del Mar."Website: www.posadadelmar.com
