Go for sunset and dinner!
by cjpindc about Sunset Grille
The Sunset Grille is under a palapa on the north beach with a great view of the sunset and also the Avalon. The restaurant is attached to the NautiBeach condos and pool area. We sat on the beach surrounded by tiki torches and palm trees. The sunset was awsome! A three piece pickup band played Neil Young, Van Morrison, and some other "oldies" in the background. It was truely a memorable night. The food was very good and the desserts were the best we had on the island. The men had cigars after dinner and then we all danced under the stars on the beach at the oceans edge. I don't remember what I had! It must've been good though or I would remember what it was. My husband had a steak and then we all had coffee drinks such as Baileys and Coffee. My father in-law had a flaming brandy coffee drink that looked very dangerous.
Isla Mujeres
by brosna
One of my favourite places on earth... Ironically called "Island of Women"...!!! Those who know me know why it's ironic!!
Anyhoos... this island only measures something like 4km by 0.5km (ie. tiny!), but it is one of those places that will draw you back again and again. It is located 8km off the coast of Cancun, and therefore you need to get a ferry across from the mainland.
If you're staying in Cancun or coming directly from the airport, you need to get a taxi to Puerto Juarez, which is only about a USD40 cab ride from the airport and takes about 30 minutes. Ferries leave usually every half hour, cost about USD5, and the journey only takes about 15 minutes.
Upon arrival on the island, you are likely to be met by many men trying to help you with your bags and to bring you to your hotel. Assuming that you have already booked a hotel, it is very likely that you will be able to walk there in less than 5 minutes - but if you have not already booked somewhere, then these guys can certainly help!! It is one of the few places in the world where I would actually trust these touts. In fact, I found out about Nautibeach (see below) through one of these guys as we hadn't booked accommodation before arriving!!
Either way, they are an inexpensive way to transport your bags to the hotel... it will allow you to enjoy the scenery, absorb the atmosphere, and avoid lugging bags around in the heat!
