Possibly the most important thing you could bring

Make sure you pack an insulated cup with a snap-on lid. You can fill it with coffee for your morning walk on the beach. Then rinse it out and throw it in your beach bag. Once the beach bar opens, have the bartender fill it up. It's much more efficient that using the tiny little cups offered at most resorts, and they would much rather make up 1 large drink than 3 little ones. Plus, the snap on lid will keep the sand out, and the cold in. If you're tight for space going home, leave them behind for another traveller. You'll make a new friend!
Fire show and bar!
by profuselycool about Blue Parrot
The Blue Parrot is at the end of the street in downtown Playa that hosts all the bars and nightlife. I'd say the Parrot is certainly one of the better known bars in the city, and my friends and I went there 3 of our 5 nights in Playa. Everynight around midnight there is a great fire show put on by dancers, twirling batons of fire around, and unintentionally dousing everyone in kerosene (haha). Anyways, the Blue Parrot was big with a great bar, friendly service and entertainment, and an adequate dance floor. Be wary of the drug dealers here and all over downtown, as there are a lot of places you can get into trouble. beachwear/casual wear.
Delicious!!!
by looby13 about Los Tulipanes
This restaurant is worth seeking out. Situated on 5th Avenue somewhere between Calle 12 and 15. Beautiful surroundings, chill out music, gorgeous food and excellent service. We ate here twice on our trip and on our second visit were given 10% discount as they remembered us from the first visit!! Sesame Chicken
Dine with a view
by RJ1967 about El Rancho Restaurant
Go up the stairs to the roof for a good view of the ocean (daytime) or for a magical spot at night. The lobster and shrimp are very good, but for a treat, try the seafood platter. It comes on top of a huge ceramic pig's head. Two or three people can share one order. After dinner, the waiters will pour a mixture of alcohol down your throat and grab your face for a good shaking. It's a fun place and the food is fine too.
Boat
by kyoub
Forty to forty-five minutes away from Playa by boat is Cozumel, the biggest island in the Mexican Caribbean.
The ferry arrives at the sole town of San Miguel. You can shop til you drop, eat til you pop, take a tour around the island,or
go snorkeling.
Spend the day there and when the sun starts to set head back on the ferry to Playa.
