Christmas in Playa del Carmen
by Dabs
It's always makes me laugh, coming from a city that is cold and snowy in December, when I see Christmas decorations in warm climates. Frosty the snowman would be just a puddle of water in this heat. Then there's Santa, all dressed up in his heavy wool red suit and snow boots looking pretty overheated in the sun and heat of Mexico. And just where does he deliver the presents? Who needs a chiminey and fireplace in this climate?
Best bar in town ... right at the beach!
by darthmilmo about Blue Parrot Inn Bar,
At night, I went out with some friends to the Blue Parrot Inn Bar, voted among the top ten bars in the world by Newsweek in 1996. The bar is definitely awesome. It’s located on the beach and the bar has swings instead of stools...hehehe. Dress beach-casual.
What a shock!
by monicathedove about Alux
We were absolutely amazed by Alux. After the taxi dropped us off on the corner, we weren't sure we were even in the right place. But, the manager met us there and led us down the 20+ stairs to the most beautiful restaurant I've ever seen. They didn't open until 6:00, and we arrived at 5:00 not knowing. Instead of being turned away, we received a personal tour and incredible service. My husband and I both ordered the lobster thermador and were blown away by the taste. YUM! Because there is no A/C, it was a little warm, so dress lightly. To get to Alux, you have to take a taxi that runs about $3-$5 from 5th Ave. Had we not been so tired from a day at the beach, we would have loved to stay and party at the bar. Can't wait to go back!
Hamburgers
by Erinalicia01 about Lol-Ha
If you feel the need for American food DO NOT go to the local McDonalds. Instead take a trip to Akumel Beach and go to Lol-Ha. You will not be disappointed. Not only are the hamburgers good, but the beach is great too. Hamburgers and Cheeseburgers.
Playa del Carmen's beautiful beachfront
by twoinluv
If you are traveling to Playa del Carmen you are probably going there for the beach. And this is a great picture of their beach. One end has the local's fishing boats, while the other is for swimming. It is fun to watch the locals coming in from the ocean with their daily catch. The water is warm, relatively clear, although not for snorkeling. There were not a lot of fish or underwater life, so you'll have to snorkel further down towards Tulum. But it is a great beach for laying out. It is a topless beach because of the numerous Europeans, so don't be surprised to see entire families where the ladies have on no tops.
