Relaxt at the Fusion Hotel!
by TripAdvisor Member Arno_d´Italia
The Fusion Hotel is a unique place in one of the booming cities of Mexico. The people working there a very friendly, the food is excellent, the beach is right at your feet, it´s only a minute away from the center of the city and from the bus terminal (and yet very quiet, so you still get a good night sleep in your airconditioned room!). So... stop thinking and book a room at this Hotel before someone else does!!!
Reggae on the beach
by butterfly_girl about Hotel Fusion
Wonderful place to enjoy a sunset and music, right on the beach in Playa del Carmen. They had music every night and the bands were really good. My favorite was a band called Natural Mystic....we had beers and nachos, but they have a full menu. Cheesy, yummy nachos and salsa and icy cold beer.
Definately a Fusion!

The Fusion Hotel is a sweet and friendly hotel right on the beach. The staff are excellent and the rooms are very clean, bright and quiet. You can stay there and not even know the craziness of 5th Ave is only a block away. This was good for me as I was not interested in the majority of the tourist traps that line Playa Del Carmen. The food and drinks are excellent and the music they play is very contemporary and cool. You can see a lot of thought and care is put into what they do there. If I could only make a few suggestions-more security at night at the front door as well as an inner door lock for the rooms (maybe a chain to put on once you are in for the night) also some door hangers to let the maids know if it is safe to come in and clean so they don't have to knock. Lastly, some ant baits for the rooms as I seemed to have quite a few in mine. But, it is a tropical climate and it is to be expected. I highly recommend the Fusion.
Paradise on La Playa

Hotel Fusion is everything we wanted in our vacation to beautiful Mexico! The location was tops and the price was right. Helpful and curtious staff gave you a very relaxed feeling while you were still being taken care of. The food was basic but great. The drinks were always cold and they had a fine selection of all alcohol and smoothies/shakes. In the middle of our trip there was a bad storm that cut off electricity to our hotel. We went down to the bar and were treated to a waiter playing the guitar and singing for us! He even serenaded our daughter who was quite flattered. The rooms were very clean and basic. Having the AC was very much appreciated! I recommend rooms #17 or #19. They are the only 2 rooms that completely face the water. The view was incredible and the sea sounds at night were hypnotic. Fusion was truly an "island of serenity" in the busy town that is Playa del Carmen. We can't wait to return.
What a Lovely Place!

My wife & I stayed at the Fusion Nov. 25-29, 2006, and everything was great! Sure you can pay a LOT more money for a five star resort, but $70 USD for a room overlooking the BEAUTIFUL garden, for a place ON THE BEACH is a great deal!!! Stay at Fusion & you'll experience the real Mexico. Our room had a king-sized bed, A/C, TV, mini-fridge, safe, & private bath. Now, don't get me wrong-- professional carpenters & floor tilers did not do the work in the rooms here, but face it-- you don't go to a beach place to stay in your room. We truly cannot see why anyone would write anything negative about this place.
Our hostess was Kim and she arranged everything for us. We booked a transfer (extra fee) from the Cancun airport through Kim, and when we walked out of the luggage area, the driver had a sign with our name on it and drove us directly to Fusion. Kim is a charming young lady who always goes out of her way to assist guests. She speaks several languages & is from the Netherlands. Kim- we cannot thank you enough!
The restaurant and bar face the ocean and the food and drinks were great. The wait staff speaks little English, but menus are in English, too, so just point to your choice. Fusion provides beach towels, sea kayaks, life jackets, and probably some other things.
All-in-all, we'll be back at Hotel Fusion some day!!
My new favorite Playa del Carmen hotel!
by TripAdvisor Member PlayadelCarmen
Stayed at the Fusion July 29 - August 2 (4 nights). Been to Playa del Carmen over 30 times so I've stayed in many of the hotels in the area. I must say this is my new favorite hotel. Right on the beach, right in the center of town (but still quiet) with great food and drink (great prices too)! The rooms need updating but are clean (management indicated that the rooms will be updated next) the outside of the hotel has been completely updated and the patio/bar area is awesome. You are literally steps from the ocean. I had a garden view room in the back of hotel for $70 per night (including a continental breakfast). Most of the mattresses in Mexico are hard as plywood, but this one was definitely softer. Can't wait to go back!
Great location, a few gripes
by TripAdvisor Member Klaxton
We stayed 6 nights in Playa Del Carmen and 2 of them were at the Fusion. We had one of the ocean balcony rooms, the view was excellent. The room was plenty large and had a nice tiled floor, a king-size bed, and a mini-fridge. Bathroom was also roomy. The A/C was able to keep the room cool with no problem. There was a 19" TV with cable and it got a lot of channels. There were plenty of beach lounge chairs under palapas in the daytime, and in the evening they pulled those in and set out some wooden seats suitable for a romantic hour or so having tropical drinks by candlelight next to the surf. The bar stays open until at least 12PM. The music was all recorded but it was very tasteful and well chosen. There were a couple of plastic kayaks for guest use. The hotel is one block from 5th Avenue, very convenient for shopping and sightseeing but away from the noise.
Those were the good parts (in my opinion). Now I have to mention the disappointing things otherwise the review would not be fair.
The TV was poorly adjusted, the picture was dark and the color was screwed up. The A/C is a window unit mounted in the wall above the bed and it is loud. One afternoon water started dripping out from under the bathroom sink and it covered the floor there, took several hours for them to fix it. The toilet will not accept toilet paper, you have to put it in a little trashcan, and the shower drained slowly. The waitstaff speaks very little English and they were hard for me to communicate with. I thought the margueritas were watery and lacked flavor. The hotel office seemed poorly organized, we had trouble finding someone who could check us out at 8:30 AM.
The place next door to the Fusion looks like someone's private residence and it is fenced in with broken glass on top of the walls, kind of creepy. The shoreline directly in front of the hotel is a solid coral outcrop, not suitable for swimming or walking in so you have to go about 50' down the beach to get in the water.
A great little place

Our family - husband, wife and 3 grown 'kids' spent 5 nights at this great little hotel (in mid October). We loved it! Being there in the off-season offered us reasonable rates. The Fusion is located right on the beach - it's wonderful to get your coffee in the morning and sit at the tables or on the beach chair and soak up the lovely view of the Caribbean Ocean. The rooms are not fancy - but are simple and very clean. The beds are comfortable - linens are nice (I tend to get fussy about worn out sheets and towels). As well, lots of big beach towels are provided. Our maid not only cleaned daily, but left us an assortment of circus critters created with towels each day on one of the beds. Our daughter, who speaks Spanish, was able to express our delight to her in seeing the daily creations.
We had room #28 - it accommodated us all comfortably - the air conditioning was appreciated, even though we generally enjoy fans - it was very hot while we were there. The small fridge accommodated our snacks and drinks easily. There were two queen sized beds on the main level and a king bed in the upper level, with a small balcony outside. There was a tv on each floor, which would be appreciated for those who like to have contact with the 'real' world while on vacation. We had our evening cocktail sitting out on the small balcony, and enjoyed a partial ocean view, as well as a lovely garden view below us. The garden was well taken care of, as was the outside eating areas, restaurant and beach area.
Breakfast - a very simple continental, was included each day, and this sustained us to our next meal. Although this breakfast is included in your room price, it was simple and you could easily order a full meal, if desired or add something - which we did, ( for an extra fee) such as a large fruit plate, to supplement the toast/rolls, juice and coffee. We had lunch a few times at the hotel, not dinner, and the meals were just fine. We were just down a block from 5th where we could venture for meals - yet it was very quiet at our place - in the way of street noise.
The evening atmosphere was lovely if you wanted to sit out on the beach and have a drink. Drink prices are typical for the area.
Staff were all friendly and helpful - particulary Kim, a lovely young gal from the Netherlands, who was very helpful. The restaurant/bar staff got to know us quickly and always greeted us with a smile. The manager was a keen surfer and he and our son had a few chats about conditions - comparing a few notes on the sport! We spent a lot of time in the ocean - it was fabulous - no need for a pool - although I'm sure younger families would appreciate it (and it seems future plans may include putting in a pool).
We would go back anytime and will recommend the Fusion to our friends. The owners advise that some new upgrades will be taking place in the future. Nope, it is not the Ritz, but for a very relaxing, simple and uncomplicated stay - you should check it out.
Noisy room, nice restaurant
by TripAdvisor Member travhappy
Based on the rave reviews, we stayed three nights at the Fusion. Our partial ocean view room was big and attractive, but being just up the staircase from the kitchen, it was very noisy. Dishes were being clanked and washed from very early to very late. Also, the toilet leaked. Besides that, this hotel is right on the beach, which is very nice, you just wake up and walk out to the patio or on the beach itself and eat breakfast. The included breakfast is continental, which means just bread, o.j., and coffee, but for not much more money you can get a fruit plate or eggs that are very generous and well presented. The office staff seemed indifferent, but the food servers were very attentive. I think this is a pretty good restaurant. If you are going to stay here, I recommend one of the garden rooms near the back. You would still be just a few steps from the beach, which is lovely.
What a find!

While my boyfriend and I didn't stay at the hotel, we are seriously considering it for our next vacation stay in Playa! We stumbled upon Fusion during a walk on the beach looking for a place to spend the day. Our hotel near town didn't offer much beach to relax on and we were so pleased to find Fusion's excellent location, food, service and prices! We rented chairs on their beach front property, ate lunch and relaxed to their music (just the right type and volume!). Many have recommended a stay there, and we recommend at least a stop by!
