Mayan Palace Resort?

by DaveSamaroo

Dear Forum: has anyone any feedback on the Mayan Palace Riviera Maya resort at Km.48 Carr. Fed. Cancun - Playa,Solidaridad, Playa del Carmen. One review in Trip Advisor claimed that all the good reviews were written by its employees so I am a bit concerned. I've already booked it via my timeshare but I'll just cancel and book another if the feedback is very negative as I'll have 3 small children travelling with me. Thanks in advance.

It's not located in Playa del Carmen..it's about a 20 minute drive by taxi to town and the property is very isolated. I saw the property while it was being built so I can't really help you on the specifics of the service, though I did find the rooms really nice.

If you would prefer to be nearer to town..I would suggest something in Playacar or in PDC. There are alot of great places to eat in town and IMO the beaches are alot better...not to mention the great shopping.

Spectacular pool! OK beach area, we stayed2 years ago. The Grand side is spectacular but the mayan side is just fine! A walk to pool area but they have a little golf trolly that will take you. Decent food! A few shops. I beleive they still have shuttle to the main road so you can take bus into Cancun. We loved this place! Our room wasn't over the top but clean

Travel Tips for Playa del Carmen

Xcaret Show

by whitneyone

At night the stadium is filled with th days visitors who enjoy a spectacular show depicting the history of the Maya. Including an incredible display on the giant ball court. There is a normal ball court game where players only use their HIPS to hit the ball. Then fire is added to the mix for a round of...well, I can only call it fire hockey.
The candles given to the crowd only adds to the ambiance of the whole night.
After intermission there is a history of dance and music in Mexico. It's a long show. It's an amazing show with a cast of HUNDREDS and live music too!

Cenote Diving

by lindaeh

Cenote/Cave/Cavern Diving
The area between Playa del Carmen and Tulum has some of the best cave/cavern diving in the world. Everyone should experience a "cenote" while visiting the Riviera Maya. If you are not a diver, I recommend a swim or a snorkle. Try Armando Elizalde of Scubacenote $85 USD for a double tank dive (lunch and equipment included). Best deal around and an excellent tour with an excellent guide.

Rivera Bus

by Erinalicia01

We took the Rivera Bus from the airport to Playa Del Carmen. Busses are clean and air-conditioned. It's about 7 dollars a person! The bus station in PDC is centrally located at 5th and Calle 2.
The only issue I had was when we finally arrived at the airport all I wanted to do was get to PDC, check into our condo and chill. Taking the bus will prolong the arrival to your final destination. But if your looking for cheap transportation and do not mind the wait I recommend it!

Great Meal or your money back...seriously!

by Electrcrio about Captain Bob's

In the two times that I have been to playa I have eaten at Captain Bob's five times and unfortunately was never able to ask for my money back! ;) This place is really great. Located on 5th Avenue Captain Bob has been in Playa for over 20 years. Originally from New York he carries only the freshest fish and meat one could ask for. He has his beef flown in daily from Nebraska, so you know its going to be top notch. His waiters are very friendly and accommodating (the waiter we had when we got engaged was still there two years later when we went for our Honeymoon!) and if you are lucky you might even get the good 'ol Captain to sit at your table and have a drink with you! His sons are generally at the place and are always warm and welcoming!

Tulum

by Mari6625

Tulum was about an hour from our hotel. We went around 11am and let me tell you it was HOT. It is absolutely breathtaking. The ruins are beautiful and up on a cliff. Below the cliff is a great beach to go swimming in and take a cool dip after a nice hot walk around the ruins.
