When I last stayed at the Molcas(1986) the hotel and service were excellent. Rooms were kept clean on a daily basis, the personnel were very friendly and attentive to our needs, the restaraunt served great food. The hotel is located in the middle of town on the beach. The ferry to Cozumel left from the dock located in front of the hotel. No charge for use of ferry to Cozumel for guests of the Molcas. I stayed at the Molcas every Christmas/New Years and Easter from 1982 thru 1986. Room rates were low and very nice rooms. President Carter stayed there in 1985 on a trip to Cozumel, rather than staying in Cozumel (this I know from personal experience, our group had to give up the beachfront rooms when his group was suddenly booked in to the hotel the day before we arrived, the hotel made up for the inconvenience by lowering our rates by 50%). I cannot give an opinion on the condition of the hotel or in the way it operates now, but if it is ran by the same people I would find it hard to believe that it would not be a great value for a place to stay. With its location directly on the beach and it's low key atmosphere it would be a perfect spot to venture out into the Yucatan from.
last visit on April, 1986.
