Just the water alone is worth the trip

Playa del Carmen is a port frequented by Cruise ships. Lucky you though, because if you didn't come by ship, you get to STAY here!
You can walk to just about everything, but there's plenty to do if you rent a vehicle and venture out!
This ship looks VERY close to shore, doesn't it? Well, it was stranded on a sand bar and stayed there for three extra days, much to the joy of the local merchants! Cha Ching! I loved waking up, opening the doors and being warm!
Rumble Through The Jungle
by AZPDC
Make sure to signup for the ATV jungle tour. Just ask your concierge to sign you up. It cost about $40 per person and is well worth it. They lead you and a small caravan of fellow travelers through a well worn jungle path, which at times is quite harrowing. Highlights include Mayan ruins and a refreshing dip in a cenote.
Getting there and around
by darthmilmo
There are plenty of buses that head to Valladolid, Cancun, Tulum, Coba, and many other places in the Yucatan peninsula. There are two bus stations: one for immediate cities/towns around the Mayan Riviera coast, and the other for inland destinations such as Valladolid.

A snack of empanadas
by Dabs about Dona Empanada
December 2006 update-I think this place is closed, the website I had doesn't work and we weren't able to find it
We picked up a coupon for this place at the travel agency and thought we would give it a try being fans of empanadas, pastries filled with meat, cheese, vegetables or fruit. We tried several different kinds, the empanadas are small so it's a good for a snack or you can make a dinner out of several. We tried Jamon con queso (ham and cheese), chorizo con papa (sausage and potato), fresa con coco (strawberry and coconut) and cajeta con coco (caramel and coconut). They were all good but I especially like the caramel coconut ones.
