We really enjoyed Club Bananas! (Real Playa Carmen)
by TripAdvisor Member OpusTheCat
We stayed at Club Bananas the week of June 13. This was our first time at an all-inclusive and Club Bananas exceeded our expectations. The hotel has nice rooms, fairly good food, and excellent service. In fact, the service really makes this place stand out.
The only negative was that their "beach club" has now merged with the Gran Porto Real. The Gran Porto Real does not really have a nice/pretty beach so that was a disappointment. We also had to "share" the beach with numerous Gran Porto guests which made us feel like we were "intruders".
The Animation Team is awesome. They do a fabulous job of making your stay an enjoyable one. If you visit Club Bananas tell them that Dave and Carroll from CA say hello!
Cheers to Niss, Pepe, and Claudy!

Club Bananas PDC is old and not renovated but kept clean and very tidy.
Maids did a great job. Every day there were clean towels and linens.
The grounds were kept up very well. Security unobtrusive but always there. Front desk very helpful. Food basically Mexican cuisine and it could be better. Sometimes not well labelled and difficult to figure out what you were eating if you did not speak spanish. Service in the buffet sometimes too efficient, whipping ones dishes and glasses away too quickly. We both suffered vomiting and diarrhea even though we drank bottled water. If you are a non smoker it is very difficult to get away from cigarette smoke in both of the restaurants.
The beach is a 5 minute ride in the banana bus or a fifteen minute walk away. It is beautiful with a great snorkelling spot a fifteen minute walk along the beach to the north. You can see the waves breaking over the coral heads (near where the boats are anchored). However it is quite a long swim out to the reef and not for the faint of heart. Only do this when the sea is calm. I got bruised being pushed into the a dead coral head by the waves.
The beach bar gets an AAA+ for super drinks and great service. The animation team also keeps you busy offering different activities every day. I learned a little spanish one day from Pepe and worked out another day with Leila.
Club Bananas is a fun place to spend some time but it is targeted to the under 40 crowd. If you are over fifty try another place.

We spent 2 wonderful weeks at club bananas Feb.1-15-2004. Our group of 3-40 somthing couples had a awesome time!!! CB is a small 10 yr. old hotel with a 3 star rating. We all choose studio rooms which are bigger, but a reg. room would have been ok as we were only in it to sleep,AC worked well & water in shower was never a problem. The room was cleaned & bed changed everyday, with the housekeeping superviser often coming to check if this was done to our liking. The ground cleaning crew was busy from sunrise to sunset with never a bit of garbage on the ground ! Security 24 hrs a day & very unobtrusive, we were so comfortable we often fell asleep in the hammocks by the pool without a worry. Drinks were plentiful & the bartenders are always willing to make whatever you'd like, at the hotel & the beach bar. Food was always varied & plentiful. Everyone was most helpful & friendly, from the frount desk to the cleaning crew, you could not pass any of the staff without recieving a " HOLA" . This hotel has a very small towm feeling , by the end of the first week we had met lot's of the other canadians staying there. We cannot say enough about the "Animation Team" (niss pe pe leyla & geny who put in very long hours ) always had a smile or an invitation to join in with whatever was going on , to joyfully giving us hugs & posing for pictures on our last nite.
They were great!!! Don't hesitate to stay at club bananas. Just Go !
Club Bananas Average

Me and my wife went to Club Bananas for our honeymoon in June. The hotel is average in several ways.If you are looking for good food, this is not the place.I read all of the reviews about this place and alot of people said the food was sooo good.ITS NOT!!Its average at best. The only other bad thing was the bed was hard.We met a couple that was staying in a more expensive place and thet said their beds were hard also,so take it for what its worth. On a good note, the staff were very nice.Esecially Pepe,Claudy,&Niss. The beach club was on a really nice part of the beach and the hotel grounds were beautiful.I would say for the price you pay its worth it.

Gran Porto Real, Playa Del Carmen

I will be flying on Xmas day with my girlfriend and her family to Gran Porto Real.
We have obviously seen the reports in regards to Wilma and i would like to hear from anyone who has recently been or knows anyone that is currrently out there.
Whilst looking on the web the reports are inconclusive in regards to its current status and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Tony

Hey there,
this is latest hotel information I could find after Wilma. Playa del Carmen did have no further big damages, such as Cancun had, that's what I heard at least.

Saludos & have fun on your vacation,
