A beautiful peace and quiet resort
by TripAdvisor Member travelwhere
My husband and I stayed at Fisherman's Village Aug/30/03- Sept 6/03. It is a very beautiful and nicely kept resort. We had the 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bathmaster suite. It was really nice with a magnificent view from the large balcony. The upstairs master bedroom stayed a bit too warm, so we slept in the cooler downstairs for the last couple of nights. RCI info states that they have laundry facilities, but they do not. It is about a $5.00 taxi fare to go to a laundry in town. (Activity desk can tell you how to get there. I just chose the bathtub). As far as the mandatory all inclusive goes, it is not a deal unless you drink a lot. There are 2 meals a day plus drinks for $35. per day each. We enjoyed the bikes that were included. There is only one restaurant. The daily breakfast buffet is really great. They do "made to order" omlettes and have plenty of food choices. Breakfast is the best and is one of the meals you get. Then you get a choice of lunch or dinner. They were all fine, but a couple more of the food coupons would have been nicer. We paid for a lunch out at the pool bar once. It was a little expensive, but tasty. It also gave us a chance to go in to town for dinner. The restaurant, Limones, in Playa del car, made a perfect steak at the tableside. (We stayed in Cozumel the week before and ate for nearly half the price of the all inclusive price ). I just considered the mandatory fee part of vacation expenses and did not sweat it. The food servers were very sweet, but busy.As far as the timeshare sales go, it was just fine. From what I had read, I expected the worst. No high pressure, treated kindly, and we were back in our room within 2 hours. All day long they get people to do it for $200. in spa services. I held out and got $300. An 80 minute massage is $100. and worth it. A nice spa.Another timeshare tip: the Mayan Palace people are everywhere. We did that one for $200. US dollars. Never sign up too soon, so that they can up the incentive. We were there 3 1/2 long hours and decided not to buy. They are sales experts and really pushy in the end, so beware. They have an answer for everything. (that is their job).Transport tip: the Rivera bus service from Cancun airport (located behind the luggage carosel) will transport to PDC for about $7. each. It is nice and air conditioned. ( When we got to the airport, the Mayan Palace guy tried to get us some "extra help" by telling us about a PDC transportation that was $18. each. I told him that I want to take the bus. He said, "there is no bus." The Riveria bus info was around the corner on the same counter he was standing at!! The taxi to Fishermans was $5.00.It was a wonderful vacation and I would highly recommend Fisherman's. Thanks.
fisherman owners

We are owners at the Fishermens and returned home just last evening. We like the hotel but there are problems. They just can't seem to do it right! Our problems stemmed from them not honoring our contract and that took several hours and a review of our contract(we took it with us) to finally get them to understand they were wrong, and housekeeping problems! Our first night we found only a bottom sheet on our bed. After several calls and visits to the front desk they did nothing...we made our own bed at midnight. Another night we found the bottom sheet too short. One day we had no towels and our friends did not have toilet paper! Their sales pitch is relentless. Their prices are way out there...it is a good thing we bought several years ago...we got a great deal! The beach is not washed out with high tide. Maybe it is if there is a large storm! We did not have the meal plan and from what I heard and saw...it is not worth it. Playa del Carmen has wonderful restaurants and my favorite is Auja on 4th.just off of 5th ave. Brenda and Jorge are the owners and the place is so much fun! They have nice music, Mayan waiters and great seafood. The tequlia lobster is the best! Never pay 65$ for a cab to the hotel from the airport. Just keep walking to the curb and past the cabs and seekout the vans. They are 18$ per person. Yes you can take the bus but you have to arrive during their running period. I arrived after a 12 hr delay at 1:30 AM and had to fight past the gougers and did find a ride down for 18 vs 65 dollars. There is always a van going down the riviera so don't surrender too early. The vans are white and are parked just straight and to the left as you exit from customs. The dirvers and scouters are dressed in nice clothing and wear green shirts or some other color and they are there to pick up people with transfer vouchers but they always have extra room for those that don't. Just remember that the hotel rooms do not have an ocean view! Only the jr suites and one and two bedrooms do. The second bedroom of the two bedroom will not be an ocean view!
Bugs and beach

Spent a week at this cute little intimate resort in Playa del Carmen. Staff is very nice, beach is beautiful, rooms were comfortable but the mosquitos and cockroaches were quite bothersome. Our first night was spent trying to squash all the bugs in the room. Housekeeping sprayed but the mosquitos kept coming back night after night ruining the comforts of the hotel. Other problems were immediately remedied like supplies of towels and soaps. Spectacular beach and pretty pool but the water got really hot in the afternoon. The whole time share experience was quite a bit of double talk and after two hours of getting the run around we were pressured to sign right then and there, which turned us off to the place. Way too big of an investment decision to make in just a two hour presentation especially when the upper management was pushing their yacht program. Food was ok but much better in the restaurants around the little town area in Playa del Carmen. Went back to Auja on 4th several times and had very entertaining waiters who were ready to please with the best seafood around - A+.

Fine face and filthy heart of Fisherman's Village

On my way to Chechinetza I was misdirected to the Time Share Sales presentation at Fisherman's Village. Luis, the salesman at KTV tours said "Go to the presentation then decline their offers and you can have a paid trip for five to chechinetza." So we went and Ohboy could they be persuaisive about their "Its not a time share" offer. Michelle, our sales person, became abusive and angrey before we terminated the presentation. She presented a pickup slip for five people to meet a bus at Plaza Pelicanos on Friday at 07:15. We were there but the bus never came. When we complained to the management at KTV everyone else had been mistaken and they NEVER pick up anywhere but hotels. The tactics at the Time Shares are becoming desperate and the product is being degraded. We found out later that the sales rep that steers you to a time share collects $150 per couple no matter what the outcome. Time to move on.

Sunset Fishermans Spa Village

Does anyone have any info on this property? We are considering using it for our time share exchange but there appears to be little info about it.

We've been there and absolutely loved it... wonderful accomodations, wonderful staff (felt like family) the breakfasts and lunches were good, we did tend to get a little tired with the dinners however. But that gives you a chance to go into town and sample a few restaurants... the all inclusive is well worth it for the drinks alone, imho.
We're planning on going back for our 25th anniversary next September, I hope it's still standing after Wilma... I also hope all the staff is safe and sound!
