Meet the Cruise Ships
by grandmaR
There are actually three cruise ship docks. The majorly preferred one - Punta Langosta is the one that is located right downtown opposite the original lighthouse. After leaving the ship and walking down the dock (either avoiding or patronizing the photographers at the end of the gangplank (photo 3), you will go over an overpass (photo 4) into a shopping mall. You are right in the heart of downtown Cozumel. The other two piers, TMM International Pier (photo 5) and the Puerta Maya Pier are both a good seven to ten minute taxi ride to town.
We went off on an excursion. When we came back we browsed through the sights at the end of the dock. The locals come there to meet the ship and perform. We were there on Christmas Day, and there was a nativity scene (photo 2). Or you could have your photo taken with this big boa instead of the ship photographers.
Cozumel - Cruise Attraction

When getting off the boat the first thing that strikes you is the beautiful crystal clear water! Aside from that, the town is very pretty much a small shopping and drinking spot for those disembarking from a cruise. The nice other options are the Tulum Ruins and the beaches around there and Xel-Ha.
Cozumel - Last Visit in May 2002

I came to Cozumel by way of the Princess Cruise ship circling the Western Caribbean route. Thus, we only spent 1/2 day walking around Cozumel. This entire town is catered to tourists with shops, bars and restaurants fronting the seafront.
Here's the Hard Rock Cafe in Cozumel.
Cute souvenir shop along the main street of Cozumel.
In every city/town/village in Mexico, a local market (mercado) exists. Here's the main square for Cozumel.
Senor Frog is a wild bar located adjacent to the ferry pier. you can hear the music a mile away!
Here's the frog enticing you to enter Senor Frog.
We had an afternoon snack at a restaurant adjacent to the ferry pier. Free appetizers consisting of tortilla chips with various dips and sauces. Yummy! We do not get this stuff in Hong Kong...
Here's a view of Cozumel from our cruise ship.
