The Hotel Taninul is an easy 15K east of Ciudad Valles. The rooms and restaurant were fair enough. We stayed here only one night to break up a journey down to Xilitla, about 2 hours further south. We had a relaxing stay and dinner at the hotel. Neighbors were extremely noisy (talked all night and we could hear EVERYTHING), but that's a courtesy issue, not the hotel's problem. We did ask the management to speak to those guests, and they did.
The grounds here are very well kept and lovely. The thermal pool was huge. It seems creepy when you first get in because it is slimy (due to the algae that grows in such warm thermal waters), but this is natural. It comes with the territory.
The MAIN bonus to staying here was the fact that at dusk, SWARMS of bats (harmless) came POURING out of the cave on the hotel's property. It was absolutely mindblowing! You could stand right in their pathway and they will fly right around you. That and the thermal pool made it all the worthwhile to stay here.
