"Topo to Los Mochis to El Fuerte"
If your Baja ferry and the connecting bus bring you late to Los Mochis.........and the cabs are not helpful with budget accomodations............by all means sleep in the 24-hour canteen inside the bus station.
It happened to us, arriving close to midnight, and we spent the night on the long cushioned benches of the canteen.......a decision made easier because a small group of young Swiss backpackers were doing the same thing. The lights were on all night and the staff pretty much yakked all night, too.
I, for one, don't believe there is no budget lodgings in a medium sized town like Los Mochis. But then when you arrive late at night with that bewildered look on your face, it's just too much for the cabbies not to take advantage of the situation.
The backpackers were off early next morning to catch the Chepe train to Creel. My buddy and I walked the few blocks into town(pass the monument, see pic, and another block or so to the right) to catch the local bus to El Fuerte. We had trouble locating the bus station because it was inside the mercado(market) area on Independencia and Santo Degollado. The bus ride to El Fuerte was two hours and cost 55 pesos.

This city grew mainly because of agriculture and the sugar cane fields. The local baseball team name reflects that: CaƱeros (sugar cane growers) de Mochis. Today it is a very active, diversified and modern city. Some of my ancestors lived here.
Topolobampo (Topo, in short) is a very busy port just 20 minutes from Los Mochis. Here I am with some relatives seeing the tankers, freighters, ferries and tug boats coming in and out the bay. From here you can get the ferry to the California Peninsula. See details at Transportation tips.
Maviri is a nice beach just 15 minutes from here. It's where locals go to enjoy the sea.
