Travel Tips for Los Mochis

Copper Canyon short-cut: El Fuerte

by jmbredeck

If you are in Los Mochis waiting for the train to see the Copper Canyon, I suggest you take a bus (45 pesos, one-way, about 90 minutes) to the city/village of El Fuerte. This basically the first stop of the train and the section of the train ride between Los Mochis and El Fuerte is dull and slow. Why not spend the night in a small town, visit the fort museum, and bag a couple extra hours of sleep the following morning before you get on the train? There are plenty of hotel options, from exclusive to cheap - and lots of food options here too. This tip may make more sense after you have done the train ride - but think it over. . .

Thursday the 18th - Leaving the beaches of Mazatlan behind Cast B moves on to Los Mochis. We arrive to an escorted parade through the city.

Friday the 19th - CS / Show Day... we perform in a baseball stadium.

Saturday the 20th - Adios Los Mochis, we're on to an overnight in Hermosillo.

One of the more fantastic train rides in the Americas. Take the train from Los Mochis to Chihuahua rather than the other way around.. if you travel from chich to los mochis, the most spectacular part of the trip would be at dusk or darkness..
It is also an introduction to the Tarahuamara Indians who inhabit Copper Canyon..
Los Mochis is nothing special but there is a seaside town nearby worth visiting.
The train leaves fairly early in the morning and soon you are over the region of the canyons.. Take things to drink and eat with you, eventhough vendors may sell you items at the infrequent stops. Arrives very late in the evening in Chihuahua. where hotel Victoria is a welcome sight
