Hotel del Valle: Cheap - but not the rock bottom
Never stayed here - just checked them out because I was shopping for an alternative to the Hidalgo.
Unique Quality: Looked OK - if you need something slightly better than Hidalgo, and you want to stay in the Centro, then this may be your next best option.

Hotel Hidalgo: Cheap and cheerless
This was the cheapest place I could find to stay, and that is about the best thing I can say for the Hidalgo. From the sullen reception desk clerk, to the neo-brutalist room decor, this place will have you saving money and longing for home throughout your (hopefully brief) stay.
Unique Quality: Economy room: no hot water, no TV, and costs about $17 a night. Bed is OK.

Economica (no TV, no hot water): 175 pesos. Makes you miss home as you stare up into airplane prop/cieling fan over you.
Single (TV and hot water): 230 pesos
Double (TV and hot water): 260 pesos
