Best Villas in Mazatlan

El Rancho Villas Hotel & Beach Resort is a rather small resort, but very interesting and with some details that the BIG ONES do not offer because they are not able to do it, like exclusivesness, privacy, tranquility, personal attention and some other benefits of a Resort of this size; as soon as you visit it, you will agree that it is a "different" concept.

It is the ONLY 100% MEXICAN STYLE in Mazatlan, I am sure you and your party will love it.

Because of its location and its size, it is ideal for families, for seniors and for honeymooners and since this hotel does not accept springbreakers, your tranquility is assured, and if you add to this the fact that the staff is very friendly and helpfull, all you have to do is lay down, relax and enjoy.

The hotel has only 28 units with 2 bedrooms(one with a king size bed and the other with 2 queen size, two bathrooms, living-dining area, and a completely furnished kitchen.
Maximum occupancy is 6 persons.

After taking a look at the rates, you might think that they are a bit higher than some of the hotels in Mazatlan, just keep in mind the fact that up to 6 six persons can sleep on ecah villa, It is located RIGHT ON THE BEACH, this means that all you have to do is walk no more than 20 feet to get the sand among your toes (Beachfront units), each villa has 2 stories, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, livind and dinning area and satellite tv. But if you're planning a 2 persons vacation, there are some very attractive specials according to the current season.

In my opinion, this is one of the most recommendable hotel in Mazatlan

Unique Quality: El Rancho has the perfect recipe for a vacation in Mazatlan; a location close enough to the golden zone of Mazatlan and far enough away, to an atmosphere full of privacy. El Rancho is located on the cleanest beach, in the most exclusive area of Mazatlan. 28 villas to be both intimate and upscale, which offer space, and versatility to make it easy to relax and enjoy your holidays in Mazatlan. With 1100 sq. feet spread out over 2 floors, 2 large bedrooms where up to 6 persons can sleep, 2 complete bathrooms that make your stay much more comfortable.

You can take advantage of the fully equipped kitchen and cook some meals in your villa, or spoil yourself with a delicious meal at La Fonda restaurant overlooking the beach, or just relax in the whirlpool drinking a delicious cocktail freshly made at La Palapa Bar. Just a step away from your villa you can enjoy swimming, parasailing, fishing, yachting, surfing, participating in games on the beach, unique dining & drinks, discos, Mexican Fiestas, jungle & country tours, visiting Old Mazatlan or just relaxing on the nicest & cleanest beach in Mazatlan.

Wouldn't Sstay There Again

by TripAdvisor Member kscAnchorage

We stayed at the El Rancho Villas Jan '06. There were 6 of us in our group and we stayed in one of the villas. The room had an overwhelming odor that we could hardly stand. The units were resonably clean except around the trash can, toilets and the couch which was especially stinky. While in the hot tub we saw a huge rat run by and a mouse scared the office attendant so bad she ran out from behind her desk. The pool was clean but too cold to swim in. However, the grounds were really very nice, the food was good and cheap but the service was very poor. Drinks were a really good deal at the bar and the bar tender was very nice.

It really amazed me how good the reviews were from other guests. Perhaps they have different standards for hotels. We missed the little shampoos, etc. and since we didn't bring a hair dryer we had to buy one. Lastly, while they provide bottled water the tap water was not safe to drink. After my daughter skinned her knee and came down with a staph infection, I was suspicious of the water.

I think the worst thing about the stay was the stinky room. The villas are cute, roomy and the grounds are very nice but I don't think we will stay there again.

perfect family getaway

This is an ideal place for families with children, like us. The spacious villa was clean. The swimming pool and hot tub were a few steps away, but within the complex and protected from the ocean, which is great for children.
The staff were all very friendly and the food was very good at the cozy restaurant. I highly recommend El Rancho.

Disappointed by El Rancho

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I just returned from our stay at El Rancho, and after the very disappointing experience we had, I had to go back online and re-read the glowing reviews of the place to see if I had read the wrong resort review. To be fair, the most accurate review I found already posted was the one on Dec. 18th, 2005 which said, "A few things to be aware of". I would have quite a few to add to that list but will summarize.

I can understand the reviews that say it is a good place to stay with a family of small children; it is a very small resort with a very small (compared to others), private pool area. Great if you just want to watch your kids swim, but the pool does not have an ocean view, and reminds me more of a Days Inn or Motel 6 than a highly-rated Mexican resort. Actually, that is true for all of the facilities; clean for the most part, but VERY humble and outdated by today's Mazatlan's standards. Our first kitchen (we had 2 rooms - see the next paragraph) had literally no utensils one could use for cooking - not even a knife - and very sparse, antiquated furnishings. I scared a gecko across the room when I opened the blinds the first morning. I understand this is Mexico, but being accustomed to Torres as a frequent stayer there, I was amazed at the difference in quality between Torres and El Rancho. When we walked into the restaurant, I thought I must be in the wrong place, because it is a teeny room on top of what is currently a construction zone. During our stay, there was a dirty piece of plastic covering the restaurant's ocean view; I assume they are putting in windows, but it was not exactly picturesque or appetizing.

Although our reservations were a bit messed up (we reserved an oceanview room for 7 days but were informed ahead of time that they overbooked and we would be in a gardenview room for 2 days), overall I agreee the staff was friendly, especially the housecleaner - exactly what we are accustomed to from the always friendly Mazatlan people. The exception was Jose (the older Jose - there are 2 at the restaurant, and the younger one was quite pleasant), who we felt treated us as if we were intruders in a private resort and wouldn't crack a smile no matter how kind and polite we were. It seemed to us as if the visitors at El Rancho were either families with small children or elderly folks who returned to the resort year after year; not fitting in either of these categories, we were hard pressed to find anyone who would even say "hello" to us, and we are friendly people. The nicest people we met while there were a brother and sister from Washington who came down to see their ailing mother, who was an owner at El Rancho. Otherwise, the "regulars" seemed to have no interest in meeting us mere renters.

Once we moved to our oceanview room, I felt a bit better about the resort - it does, afterall, have a fantastic location on the north Mazatlan beach, which is why I chose it in the first place. But for $234/night (17% tax on top of the $200 for the room), I wish I had gone back to Torres as I have so many times. Looking out at the website again, I see that the poolside and gardenview rooms are significantly less expensive - probably more in line with what El Rancho is actually worth. So if you are a young family, not necessarily concerned with seeing the ocean, not interested in the amenities you get at most resorts (no planned activities here),or elderly and looking for a very quiet spot with other vacationers like yourself, this is your spot. Those of us in the middle are better off at Torres, El Cid, or Pueblo Bonito.

I would look elsewhere

by A TripAdvisor Member

We just returned from El Rancho after a five day visit.

The good:

The grounds were beautiful, the pool clean and we were only a few steps from the ocean. We saw dolphins and one whale in the morning. Only a few families and mostly "snow birds" so very quiet and peaceful.

The restauant and bar were OK.

Gustavo the fisherman appeared daily from the beach with the days catch. We ended up buying the best shrimp and red snapper we ever tasted.

The bad:

The villa we were in I would give only one star only for the location and the grounds themselves. Nasty musty smell, the mattresses were I would think as old as the hotel, (won't go into too much detail, but paint your worst picture and start there) bathrooms were bad as well. The staff did do a marvelous job with what they had, no complaints there. The regulars that stay there annually were frustrated and complained the facility never improved or upgraded since they opened. I am not a clean freak by any means but this place tested us big time. Its also the little things. For lounging they had the cheapest plastic chairs you could find at Walmart, some were cracked and you could never get comfortable.

A regular cornered one of the employees trying to sell membership and told him in order to compete with the growing number of new resorts as well as remodels, El Rancho will need a full scale upgrade of their Villas.

We all liked our vacation in spite of the accommadations but would only consider this place again if it is remodeled.
