Gringo Lingo!
Spend some evenings in the local (watering holes). One of my favorites is Gringo Lingo. The atmosphere is very upbeat & the drink prices are very reasonable. The local people are very friendly & will go out of their way to please you.

I am getting married in Mazatlan next February and wanted to know if any one could refer me to a local wedding planner?
Wedding planers aren't really widespread in Mexico -- let alone in a relatively "small" town such as Mazatlan. You could probably find some in Mex City and surroundings, or in one of our 2 other biggest cities, but I don't think there is such thing in Mazatlan. People love to organize their weddings by themselves and with their relatives' help, so it isn't a very profitable activity and there aren't many people offering these services as there are in other places such as USA.
I think that, if you don't know anyone in Mazatlan who can help you locally and you won't be there either, you're better off searching for each service you will need separately on the web (florists, caterers, hairdresser, ballroom, etc). You might be able to find some companies listed on the net or that may even have websites which you can contact them through. It will be hard to find companies that have websites in english though..... but try using google.com.mx and you might find something.... good luck.
You may want to visit TripAdvisor's Mazatlan forum. There are many people who could possibly help you there.

Contact your hotel. I know most in town have a concierge that will help you.

Gus Gus is by far my favorite thing in Mazatlan. Great bar with excellent service and great prices!!!!! The beach is the best!!!!!The trip to stone Island was Awesome!! We had fun banana boating! The people of Mazatlan are second to none. Everyone goes out of their way to be helpful (and sell you a trinket or two) but they are genuine and very friendly
Swimwear is a must, especially if you visit in the summer. Wearing swimwear in the downtown areas, churches, and most restaurants, however is not considered proper. For dinner out ladies should wear a casual lightweight dress, or skirt and top. Men will be most comfortable in lightweight slacks, and appropriate sportswear. Ties are usually not worn. If you are visiting in the winter, the evening may be cool, all you will need to be comfortable is a light sweater or windbreaker.
Like I've always said, there is nothing like sitting on the beach in the sun to take all the stress of life away--isn't that what going on holidays is all about? Suntan lotion & very little clothing and then all you have to do is claim your spot on the beach.
There are tours that are offered for a trip to a ranch in the mountains. The stops included an old tequila factory (it is being restored) and Rancho Las Moras. The ranch is an incredible sight. The whole place is decorated with colorful flora.
We had one bad experience on this trip.
We were told that the Racnh would accept credit cards. When we got the bill, they insisted on cash. My meal (ribs) arrived after everybody else finished their meal. I was not impressed with the food. For flavor it was served in a cup of barbque sauce.
Horses were available for riding (at a very expensive rate). The horses looked under fed.
I did not put this under a tourist trap for the following reasons:
-it was nice to go to the mountians and see the scenery
-part of the tour was the tequila factory (was not actually part of the tour but the guide knows the owner)
- the guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out different types of plants (these are in my travelogue "mountain trip"
-the ranch was very interesting to see. There are cabins that could be rented
Hopefully the tour gets better.
