Hotel Tajin: Papantla's grand hotel

The Hotel Tajin would have been quite a grand establishment in earlier days, and still retains charm and style. The front desk staff seemed a little confused when we arrived, but when we showed them copies of the email correspondence booking and confirming our room, all seemed to be resolved. Our room was comfortable and clean, with TV, and air conditioner. This however was very noisy so we didn't use it. When we arrived, there seemed to be no hot water to the room, but when we tried again in the evening, it was warm enough for a shower. The room had French doors opening onto a small balcony with a great view overlooking the town

There is an airy lounge area upstairs, with wrap-around windows overlooking the town.

We had a load of laundry done for around $3 - $4.

The hotel has a smart-looking restaurant, however we chose to eat in the restaurants around the zocalo.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful - most spoke no English at all but this did not pose a problem. Cost for the room for the two of us - about $48 per night.

Central location - 4 minutes walk down to the zocalo: comfortable clean rooms: friendly and helpful staff: our laundry was done promptly and well, and at a very reasonable price.
