Great Staff, Close to the Zocalo

Hotel Trinidad has different types of rooms to fit different needs (from rooms without bathrooms to suites). I stayed in a room with a fan and also a room with air conditioner/tv. The room with the air conditioner/tv was definitely more comfortable as it is very hot in Merida during the summer. However, I felt like the room with the fan while somtimes a little warm, was fine. I got really sick while I was in Merida and the staff worked it out so that we could stay in the same room even though they didn't have any rooms left for the extra night. The staff was really accomodating and so helpful and that was much appreciated. The staff is one of the best reasons to stay there. Another good reason to stay here is the location. They are located a few blocks from the zocalo, close enough to walk and far enough away for peace and quiet. They are also a block away from Calle 60.

Unique Quality: If you get a room with a fan only, the room is very simple. There is no TV, but they do have a common room with a TV. They also have a common room with a pool table. And they have a roof terrace with a jaccuzzi. If you stay at this hotel, you have free access to the pool at the Hotel Trinidad Galleria which is a couple blocks away. They serve toast for breakfast and have free coffee and tea all day. They also have free purified water.

Downtown budget hotel

Hotel Trinidad is three blocks from downtown. As with many of the smaller hotels in Mérida, it is in an old colonial mansion. You have to walk through a plant-filled courtyard and around corners to find your room.

There are a number of different styles of rooms - with or without attached washrooms and with or without airconditioning. Our room had two twin beds and the bathroom was clean. Generally we found that budget hotels supplied soap and a small towel, but no shampoo. I could survive with the one towel, but my wife brought her own towel to supplement the little hotel towel.

As we were not sure about the noise level in the city with open windows, we went for the air conditioning. The cost in March (off-season) was 250 pesos for the room.

Staying at the Hotel Trinidad includes a basic breakfast of toast, jam and coffee.

One thing was tricky - the advertising on the door of the hotel mentioned a swimming pool, but when we asked we found out they mean that you have access to the pool at a second hotel owned by the same people -- the Hotel Trinidad Galeria. Of course, not many people bother walking the few blocks to the other hotel, swimming, getting dressed again to walk back to your Hotel Trinidad.
