The Flycatcher Inn: Quiet little B&B in central Yucatan

Our intention was to find an inexpensive B&B near Uxmal and the Puuc Route, so that we had a central base to explore the interior of the Yucatan. The Flycatcher more than met our expectations. It is a beautiful compound consisting of a main house, where we had breakfast, a few freestanding cabanas, stunning gardens and a wilderness path. Our cabana was very comfortable, well decorated and most importantly, had a HOT shower. Our host, Kristen, is an US expat. She gave us a lot of space and was not too "hovery" (as some B&B owners can be), and provided us with great info on local restaurants, sights, and a secret off the path cenote.

There are two resturants in Santa Elena that Kristen recommended: Chac-Mool and The Pickled Onion. Chac-Mool was very dark with minimal accomidations and service, but the food was good. We really enjoyed The Pickled Onion. I got this phenomenal guacamole soup there!
