Advice on Yucatan travel

by jwulf

I will be in the Yucatan throughout the month of July and am seeking advice on possible iteneraries. I am flying into Cancun July 1 and will head out from there. Would a couple of nights on Isla Mujeres be worthwhile? I plan to venture into Belize as well, probably Caulker Caye. How about Merida and Campeche? Finally, if anybody would like to meet up I'd be interested as I will be solo. thanks!

Had a 3 week hol in Yucatan. Flew into Merida then drove on to Chichen Itza, Valladolid, Coba & Tulum. It was one of the best hols ever and would recommend all the above places, each for different reasons - the ruins of CI, the beaches, ruins and biosphere of Tulum, the vibrancy of Merida (and more ruins of Uxmal nearby).
Enjoy.

campeche is probaply the most beautiful town in yucatan.

Hola!
Oh yes, you should definitely go to Merida! I was there a couple of days last December and I enjoyed that town a lot.
There is a wonderful zocalo, great markets, lovely atmosphere and great things to visit nearby (Chichen Itza, Uxmal, the Ruta Puuc...).
Campeche is also interesting, but only for one day or so. Many fortresses, nice location by the gulf of Mexico.
Let me know if you have any questions. And enjoy mexico!!

For more on the Yucatan and the area around Merida, check out www.yucatantoday.com. it gets updated a lot, more so than the printed version which you will find everywhere in Merida.
There are so many wonderful little pueblitas around Merida...and be sure to visit the haciendas. Magnificent buildings. Some have been restored, like Hacienda San Jose Cholul (go there for dinner) and some have been maintained as museums (www.yaxcopoil.com).
There's so much to see!

mm If you are in Merida, send me an email, I moved here in feb and I have seen bunches of tourists, so you will be meeting people along your travel.
