Inflated price with no beach view and a FIRE!!!

I am writing regarding a stay. Besides the room not being very clean, we could have been killed. On the July 5th around 4 a.m., we were awakened by someone beating on our door yelling FIRE, FIRE! We jumped up and open the door to find the hallway completely filled with thick smoke!! We ran out into the hall and felt our way down the stairs because you could not see in front of you. We had to stay in the parking lot for 4 hours with pajamas on, some with no shoes and shirts while the fire was put out and smoke removed from the building. They didnt even offer us water or shelter from the sun when it came up. There was no fire alarm to alert us of the fire and no sprinkler system in place in the building. The only way were alerted of the fire was because of food service workers coming in to work that morning saw the fire and ran down the halls alerting the guests!!! The fire alarm did not go off until most everyone was already out of the building and then the fire trucks came about 15 minutes after that. We all could have been killed and upon checking out we were still charged the over inflated charge of $252.00 a night for a no beach view. Our clothes and luggage was filled with smoke. The halls were black with soot and one worker sprayed us in the face with cleaner as we walked down the hall to check out. I would like a refund at least! The clerk said well the manager will call you, guess what he never did!!! They told everyone they could stay in their smokey rooms or check out, regardles they would be charged!!! We won't make that mistake again!!!

Unique Quality: Dirty and inflated prices!!!

No oil at Gulf Shores, AL!

Best Western on the Beach was very clean and service was great. Front desk answered questions efficiently. Parking was good. Bathrooms are a little small but good air condtioning, cleanliness and other small amenitites made up for it. I would recommend this place. The prices I think are average and they offer AARP rates for seniors. Never used indoor pool cuz of the beach and outdoor pool at the time.

Unique Quality: The area was a little depressing because of damage done from last 2 hurricanes, but there's lots of rebuilding going on in the area. The pool left a lot to be desired. The rock fall attached to the pool looked like it hadn't worked in a while. There was some light construction going on at the time we were there and woke up at 7am every morninig because of the noise. The street view from balcony wasn't bad, just interesting, so I can imagine the fantastic view of the gulf. It's a beautiful beach. Restaurants are very limited as far as walking distance, but my personal favorite the Waffle House, is 1/2 block away. If you go, you must eat at Lambert's Cafe on Rt. 59. It's a southern experience!

After Ivan

Best Western advertises themselves as "THE WORLD'S LARGEST HOTEL CHAIN®" But it really isn't a chain - it is a group of loosely knit franchise operations - sometimes of hotels which were originally another type of hotel. Since they are run by individuals and don't have similar physical plants, the quality is often uneven. This can be both good and bad.

I have not stayed here, so I can't say on which side of the norm, this hotel falls. I have not been able to get a price on their database for next summer, or indeed for anything except for the current month in the middle of the week, but it does appear to be in operation after the hurricanes.

They say they have. "..three pools-including a heated in-door pool, a beach-front pool, and a kiddie pool. Two hot-tubs are available for further relaxation, and a rock waterfall offers a soothing ambiance. Guest rooms are fully equipped with kitchenettes and private balconies overlooking the coast. Enjoy a delicious meal at the on-site restaurant, the Island Panckake House. Excellent food and the friendly staff makes a visit more enjoyable at this great Gulf Shores hotel!

For guests interested in visiting local area attractions, Best Western on the Beach is located near Sunland Amusement Park, Zooland Animal Park, the Riviera shopping outlets, a championship golf course, and fishing charters.
