    Friendly staff, very courteous, nice rooms, and great price*

    The Days Inn in Monroeville has 63 rooms. The outside looks pretty nice and the rooms were clean and serviceable. All rooms have free High-speed Internet access, microwaves, refrigerators, and hair dryers. The staff was friendly and efficient. Nearby restaurants include: David’s Catfish House; Old Mexico; China Star; Courthouse Café; City Café; and the Mockingbird Grill.

    Amenities include a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and spa tub. Fax and photocopy services are available at the front desk. A complimentary Continental breakfast is offered each morning.

    The Best Western - Mountain Brook is a nice motel in Birmingham on US Highway 280. It is a little more expensive but has very nice facilities to include a gym/spa.

    This place is definitely substandard. The facilities are limited and not in good repair. The office doubles as a small store selling alcohol so the neighbors sometimes get loud. The place was not overly clean either.

    Broken toilet and towel bar. Very limited hot water. Stains on the rug. Drunks nearby.

    Hampton Inn Cullman: pretty nice for a chain hotel

    • Stayed for two days in 2006 while exploring the Cullman area. The rooms were very nice for such a low price. The beds were firm, not hard, we had enough blankets (Angie likes the A/C on FRIGID), there was a coffee service in the room that actually worked. The TV worked. The people at the reception desk didn't look at us as if we were weird when two women checked into one room. (You wouldn't believe some of the looks I've gotten). The Hotel is located on a main highway one exit north of the grotto.

    Marriott has several properties around Mobile, including a full-service Marriott hotel that was too expensive for me on this trip. So I opted for their lowest-grade extended-stay property. For $65 per night. Without breakfast.

    My suggestion for lodging includes the use of either a condo or Beach House. This is great for families or couples traveling together. There are locations that can be found under the gulfshores.com website.

    Hampton Inn Oxford: Alabama hotel

    • This hotel is clean, pretty, the people are friendly and it lives up to the Hampton Inn reputation.
    The room was clean, inexpensive, nicely appointed, the linens were clean and smelled fresh, and there were more than enough towels and pillows. The TV actually worked, and was hidden inside a pretty chiffarobe. We had internet service here that was fast and didn't time out constantly.

    Near the Talledega raceway.
    Has an outdoor pool that was CLEAN and had several lounge chairs, tables and chair sets, and a fence around it.
    The Outback Steakhouse next door had very good service and good food.

    • Great Hotel to stay at. Restaurants are located close. Has very nice atmosphere for older folks. Live music.
