Mixed Feelings About Kings Creek
My family and I stayed for 4 days in June. First, I would never consider buying a timeshare here. The resort is new but already you could see signs of wear and tear (and we stayed in the new Townes section). I can't imagine what this place will look like in 5 or 10 years. Second, parking seemed to be a problem. We stayed across from the Townes pool and since the pool has no parking of its own, people staying at other areas of the complex would park in the residents parking spaces. Many of the guests/owners seemed, for lack of a better word, uncultured (loud, rude). Many times the pool was take over by large groups/families who didn't seem to care about the other people using the pool. If I saw this after buying a timeshare I would be less than happy.
The community grills, while plentiful, were dirty and falling apart. I just had the feeling the place was designed to sell timeshare units, but when you looked at the details, the shortcomings became evident. The quality of the construction and interior finishes were poor. The place almost felt as if was a temporary facility. Sure if you're looking for a roomy alternative to a motel I would recommend it (although not whole-heartedly). It was nice to have a kitchen and laundry facilities in the room, which is the main reason we chose this place. But at the end of my trip I thought, wow, what strange place.
After having to move rooms a couple of times due to insects (ants all over and getting a handicapped room)...we finally were able to settle in. What they call a one bedroom unit is soooooooo tiny like a little box! We already own a timeshare and have stayed at many resorts and find it sad they are able to call themselves a 5-star resort. The pools/hot tubs were filthy, sand, dirt and debris the entire time we were there. Their customer service was not up to parr at all. No one ever just said I am sorry or what can we do to make it better, each person we encountered blamed someone else or made excuses.
Will not be back or refer anyone to this resort.
Spacious Accommodations for Groups!
We stayed over 4th of July weekend for four nights. We enjoyed our stay at the resort. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit in a cottage. The cottage was spacious and all 6 of us never were cramped. This better than any hotel. The resort amenities, consists of 2 outdoor pool areas, an indoor pool but, it didn't have good ventilation so it was very hard to breathed! The game room was also very hot in there no A/C. There were grills available but, they were filthy. Overall I think KCP is a very nice resort with great accommadations. But, there amenities needs improvement better maintenance and supervision! To be condsidered 5 stars in my opinion. Some Restaurants we enjoyed- a quaint southern breakfast at the Old Chickahominy House and Pierce BBQ a local favorite Captian George Seafood. The resort is next door to Water Country USA but, approx. 4 miles away from the rest of the area attractions including the supermarket "Food Lion" in the Williamsburg Shopping center. Might be helpful since there's a full kitchen. Great place just needs some TLC.
Good alternative to a resort but customer service could be improved
We arrived at KCP on 6/29, per our reservation, to stay at a 1br/1bath cottage. When we went to check in at the front desk, they had our arrival/check-in date as 7/29! After waiting patiently for almost one hour to have this straightened out (and this was after a 7 hour drive), the front desk staff gave up on who entered the dates incorrectly and told us that they would upgrade us to a 2br townhome, since we patiently waited for almost an hour. Ten minutes after they advised us of our upgrade, they found the error in their computer system --- someone entered our last name into the system incorrectly and then typed in the wrong dates. Since they "resolved" the problem, the front desk staff promptly removed our upgrade and then downgraded us back to the 1br--- even though we had waited for one hour for them to resolve this (and, especially, to find out that the mistake was due to their own error). Upon our check-out, I submitted feedback to the front desk about this. No one apologized, no one asked how they could have made anything better, no one even so much as cared. Bad business!
KCP did have its up-sides. They had activities scheduled every day. It was very close to Water Country USA, and not too far from BG. However, be careful when dealing with the front desk staff and also know that any negative feedback you give probably will not make a difference.
Not too bad
We stayed at the plantation from July 24-27. We were in the new town home. There is not much I can complain about. It felt as if you were at home. It was very clean, full kitchen with use of the dishes, washer/dryer and vacumn. The only thing was our toliets kept getting plugged up. It was like that when we got there. I called the front desk and they had someone right up to fix it.
The only thing that I didn't like was the 90 minute "tour". They want you to purchase timeshare. It would be great for someone interested in that, but we weren't.
We were right across from one of the outdoor pools. It was very nice and we enjoyed relaxing in it.
We enjoyed the Haunted Dinner Theater, VA. Living Muesum and Go Karts Plus. Bush Gardens was o.k. but nothing to brag about.
I also would like to say that this website is very helpful. I read reviews here on trip advisor before I even made my reservations.
Would I stay here or recommend this to someone? Probably so!
Pleased with our stay at King's Creek
Stayed here with my husband, 16yo, 13yo, and 2yo for a week in July.
We arrived early, hoping that we could check in early - we had come from DC and had to check out of our last place at 10AM. They said our room was not ready, and took our cell# so they could call when it was. I asked if we could use the pool while we waited(it was about 98 degrees that day) - they said of course and told us where everything was. Room wasn't ready until 3:30(normal check-in is 4PM).
We stayed in a 2BR townhouse and it was great. Extemely clean and spacious. There were 2 good size bedrooms, a living room w/ a huge projection TV, a decent-sized kitchen, 2.5 very nice bathrooms, and a small deck in back.
We were provided a package with activities and lists of local restaurants, stores, and churches(w/ directions to the closest ones). I can't speak to the activities as we were offsite at Busch Gardens, Water Country, VA Beach, and King's Dominion. We did stop at a welcome breakfast one morning to get some juice for my little one, and the salespeople were hovering. They had things like movies, sundaes, arts and crafts, etc. I would definitely have checked some of them out if we'd been around.
The outdoor pool was OK - only went from 3-5 feet, and no diving boards or slides. There was a small kiddie pool, which tended to get very sandy(there is a playground next to the pool that is set on sand). There was also a small hot tub(much too hot that week to check out). There is no lifeguard on duty - pool is open from 10 to 10, so we did use it a few nights when we got back.
Never used the indoor pool or gym, but they looked clean and in working order when I checked them out.
The location is excellent - right next to Water Country and 5 minutes from Busch Gardens. It was close enough that we could leave the teens at the parks and take the little one back to the house for a nap.
I've seen some comments from people regarding it being noisy and crowded, especially around the pool. We didn't experience any of that - in fact, it was so quiet at times I wondered who else was staying there. The last time we used the pool we were the only ones there.
I was very pleased with the townhouse and would definitely stay there again. I paid $750 for the week via RedWeek, which I think was a great value.
Reunion spoiled by Management decisions.
Don't necessarily expect management to feel responsible for having electricity - somehow they expect that to be between you and the power company. I rented three units for a family renuion for four nights. Electricity was out in one unit for 14 hours starting late afternoon. The response was always the the power company was working on it. They would not put us in another unit, even though some were empty that had electricity. It was veryhot, hottest period of the year. One unit had to be vacated because of the need for electicity for medical reasons. Food in freezer and frige spoiled. Management also refused to provide any compension. First they said that they had no responsibility and that it was a power company problem. However some units had power and others didn't. The assistant manager suggested we make a claim with the power company. We were told that they would move us to another unit or compensate us if power was out for 48 hours.
I could not recommend taking a chance with these people. However, the front desk staff did smile when relaying the unsatisfactory management responses.
I loved it !!! I wish I could live there!!
The establishment is gorgeous.. Peaceful, great for familes. A stone throws from Water Countryand Busch Gardens. Near Colonial Williamsburg, it had everything I wanted.. I had such a great time I can't wait to go again.
Staff not nice and too far from CW
The condo itself was very nice, but the staff was not. After driving for 6 hours we arrived at 3:00pm and were told our condo was not ready. It was not done until 4:45 and even then we had to put up with the dishwasher running for another couple of hours. The worst offense and unforgivable in my opinion, is that they put out a newsletter with the resorts activities. One of the activities read like this, "Come make your feet happy. Get your toes painted and have some fun at 6:30pm." Once my daughter saw that, she did not want to do anything else but get her toe nails painted. We all wanted to go to Colonial Williamsburg, which by the way was a good 8 minute drive and not an easy one. We gave in and decided we would go to CW and to dinner after we got our toes painted. Well lets just say we were tricked. It was actually a MaryKay skin care sales presentation. The consultant spent the first 30 minutes talking about the different products for sale. She did have nail polish there, but we had to paint our own toe nails. After 40 minutes of listening to her sales pitch we left without polish on our toes. It was just a very sneaky and deceitful way to get people to show up. As a tired and hungry travelor with only two days to spend exploring, I did not appreciate that! The front desk staff didn't seem to care. If the reason for my trip was to visit CW, I would stay closer.
what a great spot
we came with the kids 4and 6 the cottage had lots of space and was very kid freindly. the location steals the show nestled in the woods at the end of williamsburg yet close to all of the great attractions in williamsburg, water country busch gardens and all the historic areas. Highly reccomend this spot would definetly return to this resort
