The Alaska Zoo
by mcpangie
A lady I know came to Alaska one summer to attend a wedding. She went camping for a few days up at Denali, came back and went to the Alaska Zoo and was a little disappoint that she'd seen more wildlife there. But, that makes sense. The animals at Denali National Park aren't in pens waiting for visitors. So, if you are coming to Alaska to see some wildlife like these beautiful trumpeteer swans in their natural habitat, stop by the Alaska Zoo just to make sure you get to. Incidentally, these trumpeter swans are wild, they live at the Alaska Zoo however.
Spying Wildlife

We encountered so much wildlife on a daily basis in Alaska. Bears, whales, eagles, marine mammals, caribou. Keep your eyes open and the binoculars handy. In this photo Becky was watching the pod of Belugas head up channel towards Anchorage.
No dress code
by PA2AKgirl
Anchorage is a very laid back city when it comes to fashion and dress code. In fact, there are no restaurants with a dress code (other than you should be dressed) in this city. I imagine it’s because it’s so cold a lot of the time that you need to dress in layers and keeping warm is a top priority. I do like this about the city because you don’t have to stand around and wonder how you are going to pull off a dressy outfit during a blizzard. But this does allow for people to come up with some interesting choices or to not get out of sweatpants when ordering a fancy meal. Sometimes, it’s a bit strange but it puts a colorful group of people together. For the visitor, it’s nice that you can come back from a hike or from fishing and get something to eat.
Ice-Climbing, Kayaking, Hiking, Canoeing.

I loved the exhilaration of Ice-Climbing and the sheer fun of Kayaking.
The absolute fun of hiking in the country. Warm clothes, water proof also.

View from a Residential Area
by cruisingbug
I lived in a duplex off of Northern Lights Boulevard, a more residential part of Anchorage than most visitors experience. A pedestrian walkway stretches across the street which offers some fantastic views of the Chugach Mountains, looking to the east.
It always surprised me, coming from flat Florida, how no matter which street you looked down, there were the mountains!
