Our stay here was the only negative part of our trip to Alaska. The owner was a bit odd..... in attempting to appear like the gracious hostess, she was eerily ever-present. She was always at her door when we either left or came back, wondering where we had been or where we were going. Her idea of a "hearty breakfast" was two large muffins in a tin can, old cereal in the cupboard and a few small things in the tiny fridge. I found dishes that were DIRTY, with old food stuck on them! The place was very dusty, to the point where you could write your name in it! We also know that she was in our living quarters while we were away. Although this was our first time staying in a B&B, I didn't think that was necessary. We told her that we would take care of breakfast ourselves, (didn't trust the muffins!) so she had no reason to come in, especially while we were gone. There were all these little post-it notes all over the place, and she kept pushing for us to take the plane that lands near Mt. McKinley. She must have said that 4 times since I made the reservation! She was visibly surprised when we did NOT take her advice on things to do and see.......as if she couldn't believe that we had our own itinerary and didn't need her help.
Unique Quality: The area in front of her house is not beautiful, by any means! It's overgrown and messy! The house doesn't look ANYTHING like what the picture is, on her web page.
Very friendly family run B&B has really nice flowering yard. Good location to walk downtown or along bike/running/walking path by the tidal flats. Wireless internet signal available. Good selection of breakfast cereals, tea & coffee. Color tv, refrigerator & stove available as, for small fee, are laundry facilities. Bathroom is shared between 2 suites.
