7 Glaciers Restaurant

by Lisbethcro

Has anyone ever eaten at 7 Glaciers Restaurant? I know it is expencive but I was wonering about the views while eating and also on the tram ride there. We will be celebrating our 30 yr. anniversay and wanted to find a beautiful place for dinner. Any other suggestions?

The views are incredible, the food is good. If the view is your priority, Seven Glaciers s a great choice.

Have eaten dinner there four times. Twice the food was excellent and twice only so-so. The view is very nice.
For good view and good food perhaps the Crow's Nest at the Captain Cook? Or Simon & Seaforts?

i just got back from our trip, and we did hit the 7 glaciers (as well as stay 2 nights at the Alyeska Prince). The food was really good, although not "head and shoulders" above some of the other great restaurants we went to in Alaska (nothing comes close to the Double Musky!). You're obviously paying for the view, but for tourists like us it was definately worthwhile.

Where is the Double Musky?

Double Musky is in Girdwood, about 45 minutes south of Anchorage.
Consistently voted top restaurant in Alaska and winner of some national awards as well.

Travel Tips for Anchorage

In 1964 the worst earthquake...

by CubsIn4

In 1964 the worst earthquake in North American history struck the city of Anchorage, leveling most of its buildings and in some cases permanently changing its landscape. Its residents rebuilt their city, and since then it has become the largest and most important in Alaska. At Earthquake Park you can see how the land was changed by the disaster. You can also get some stunning views across the water to the mountains. When I think of Anchorage I think first of all of mountains. Although not close to the city, they are very visible and very beautiful.

Denali (Mt. McKinley)

by PA2AKgirl

It may seem a little strange that I'm putting Denali/Mt. McKinley in a tip for Anchorage but on a clear day you can see it from here. Even if seeing it up close is more of a priority, it's really quite amazing to see it from Anchorage, when it's hundreds of miles away. I remember flying into Anchorage a few years ago and we were told we could see it. At first, I just thought it was because we were circling the area and maybe ended up well to the north of Anchorage, but we landed a couple minutes later. Then I was trying to think how it was possible to see it from so far away. But just as unfathomable to someone who is used to the rolling hills of the Appalachians (in the eastern US), is how tall a 20,000'+ (6,194m) mountain really is. And it's certainly tall enough to be viewed from Anchorage.

Good points to see Denali/McKinley in Anchorage are at Earthquake Park and Airport Park. Airport Park might be the better of the 2 because they have a sign there to help orient you. Both are located near the International Airport. Pretty incredible stuff....

It may seem strange to us...

by EdinburghRoc

It may seem strange to us Europeans and I from Edinburgh where I'm used to seeing people drink at tables on the pavement. But you may be asked to give your date of birth, you will not must not be seen with Beer, before leaving a shop drink must be in a bag. It must not be seen. Your salesperson may not be allowed to serve you {to young} so must ask someone else to serve you alcohol.

Just don't go too far...

Driving along the Seward highway, there are many chances to pull over and park alongside a trailhead leading into the Chugach Range. Trails are clearly marked and expect to meet many locals out enjoying nature!

Take a Drive on the Seward Hwy

by AlexisElizabeth

If you aren't already headed out to Girdwood or Seward and you have a car, it is worth it to take a drive out on the Seward Highway (Turnagain Arm). Just get on the hwy and drive South from Anchorage. The mountains rising straight up out of the water on one side is so startling, and there are many waterfalls on the other side. In the summer you may see pods of whales right off the road in the bay, and dall sheep (sometimes with babies!) are a regular sight on the rocky left side. I believe that highway is one of the most beautiful drives in the world.
