We stayed in three rooms in this good place.

We were using Anchorage as a hub for some of our adventures in Alaska and so checked in and out of this hotel three times.

We had different rooms on each occasion. A nice room on the first floor with a good size king bed. Then we had a smaller twin room on the second floor and then finally a huge suite with a large king-size bed on the ground floor.

All rooms were clean and tidy.

Unique Quality: The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The courtesy bus could be booked up to take you to various places of interest.

As we were coming and going so much, and we didn’t want to drag our suitcases needlessly around Alaska, the staff kindly let us leave them in a secure room and we took of for a few days with just backpacks.

There was a small swimming pool, but don't expect to swim too many lengths as it was quite small. The hot tub was great though and was needed after a days hiking in the mountains!

No restaurant or kitchen, but this didn't bother us as we usually always head out to a restaurant for dinner.

Breakfast was provided and consisted of muffins, bagels or you could make your own waffles with the mixture and waffle machines. Tea, coffee and fruit juices were also provided. Only drawback would be the paper cups and plates, but I suppose that because the hotel had no restaurant or kitchen, this was the best way of not having to do any washing up.

The free internet in the breakfast area was a great way of keeping in touch with the UK whilst we were away.

They'll pick you up!

We had made previous arrangements, but when we called the "other" place from the airport we were advised that it would be close to an hour before they would even head out to pick us up. So, we looked at the other opportunities listed on the courtsey board at the airport.......
When we called Aspen, they said that they would be happy to come get us, and were at the curb in less than 15 minutes. When we arrived at the hotel, the staff was very friendly, and welcoming. The room was very nice and included a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. I would highly reccommend this location as your home away from home when you visit Anchorage.
The rates are probably higher during the summer season (May, June & July)

Alaska for a Summer holiday? Brilliant!

by vichatherly

"Alaska - The great wilderness trip of a lifetime"

My girlfriend Nic always had the desire to go to Alaska and see the wilderness country. We had looked at the trip details for a few years and because of the cost my other football related holiday commitments were left it for a while.

Then this year with Man Utd going out early in the Europe and other things falling into place the trip was again mentioned. We didn’t want to do the normal cruise around Alaska and wanted to get to grips with some of the wilderness and the native animals. Nic found this great Alaskan explorer website which did trips out of Anchorage ranging from one day hikes to four day trips in Denali. We sent off details of what we wanted to do and they came back and said that it would all be possible. All we had to do then was to get the flight from London.

"Itinerary for the Trip - Two Weeks"

Stayed at the "Extended Stay Deluxe Anchorage" and used it as a hub to take some trips out and about in Alaska.

Tuesday/Wednesday - King Salmon and Brookes Lodge for the "Valley of 10,000 Smokes Tour" and "Salmon and Bear watching"

Thursday - Hired bikes and rode Tony Knowles Coastal Trail south from Anchorage

Friday - Took the "Coastal Classic Train Anchorage" to Seward and then hopped on board the "Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise".

Sunday - Off to a tour of Denali National Park

Tuesday - Headed to Talkeetna and took glacier landing flight seeing tour of Mt McKinley

Thursday - Hiked around Anchorage - Wolverine Trail

Friday - We were due to take the Glacier Discovery Train to Whittier and then a Glacier cruise - sadly cancelled due to bad weather.
