Very handy yet quiet location
The Merrill Field Inn is across east Fifth Avenue on a side street from Merrill Field, a busy general aviation airport within Anchorage. Yet, the room was quiet and comfortable, if older than the average motel. Excellent queen bed and mattress, good linens and TV with a gazillion free channels to suit every taste-probably from satellite dish. Thermostat controlled heat and individual quiet air conditioning. Opening window for fresh air. I chose a non-smoking room. Breakfast served free in the lobby from 6am to 10am every morning. The fresh orange juice appreciated. Just a few miles from downtown Anchorage on a major road with timed stoplights made commuting around a breeze, and handy to restaurants and shopping mall. I made my reservation through the web of the Alaska Visitor's Bureau, and the American Automobile Association accommodations rating rating is two stars. It turned out to be much better than initially expected. I would stay there again.
Unique Quality: The free breakfast was varied enough and filling so you would not have to seek a sit down restaurant. Coffee, tea, two fruit juices, toast, muffins, eggs, etc. Just four chairs so several guests brought their food back to their rooms.
The lobby has FREE internet laptop computer which I watched a Japanese tourist guest use one morning without fuss. She quickly brought up a Japanese site all in Japanese characters. No pool and no view to speak of except the mountains and wonderful clouds on sunny days.
