Stayed here for a couple of weeks in November of 2008 for a business trip. I didn't have high expectations and had never stayed there before. I was pleasantly surprised!
Very centrally located next to the Performing Arts Center and across the street from The Glacier Brewhouse. 5th Ave mall is two blocks away.
Each room has its own balcony. Mine was on the 12th floor looking out over the inlet and the port with Denali off in the distance.
The hotel has a restaurant and small bar. Food was OK but the bar was usually empty. There is a small exercise room on the 14th floor with 2 treadmills and 2 eliptical machines and some free weights. Limited off street parking.
In my opinion , if you are staying in Anchorage then this is the place to stay. its pretty nice and most rooms have a great view of the mountains. It is also in the heart of downtown Anchorage. giftshop

CLUB PARIS IN ANCHORAGE (on 4th street down from the Captain Cook Hotel). Or try the GARDEN OF EATIN' (cleverly hidden by the airport - call 248-FOOD).
WESTMARK HOTEL
Prices for above are moderate and atmosphere (s) casual. They're the place only locals visit on regular basis. CLUB PARIS OFFERS THE MOST INCREDIBLE STUFFED MUSHROOMS & STEAKS -- a nice break from all the Salmon, King Crab and delites you'll have or will be eating throughout your stay.
TRY THE RAINDEER SAUSAGE IF U SEE IT (FOR SURE @ the WESTMARK)anywhere. It's got a nice spice & if you like sausage, it's a breakfeast delight.
