For Bluebloods Unfit for the Pine Needles

Situated at Milemarker 231 of the Parks Highway, the McKinley Village Lodge should not be confused with the McKinley Park Resort. With 150 rooms, there is a good chance of booking your accommodations if you plan well in advance. The lodge is open only from May to September, but the prices for your room make up for their off-months. The front desk is open 24 hours, and the lodge has an extensive restaurant, but no view whatsoever of the park and very little of the Alaska Range. Courtesy shuttles run from the front door to the park's visitor center.

More about McKinley Village Lodge

Fairbanks: Cloudberry Lookout...

by youc0001

Fairbanks: Cloudberry Lookout B & B
http://www.mosquitonet.com/~cloudberry/
Camping: Chena River State Rec Area, or White Mountains Nat'l Rec Area

Anchorage: ??? Expensive Hotels ??? Expect the hotels in the summer to be over $100 per night.

In Valdez: Camp at Thompson Pass Blueberry Lake State Park or Valdez Glacier Campground, or if you are adventurous.... drive down Mineral Creek Trail and camp beside waterfalls, but watch out for black bears and marmots!

In Denali: Camp at one of the campgrounds into the park. Or stay at Riley Creek Campground that has running water.

There is also a hostel in McKinley Village somewhere, and many expensive hotels/cabins.

Seward: Don't stay at Miller's Landing! I stayed in a cabin there once and it was terrible! Rent a sailboat from Sailing Inc. if you are experienced and sail Resurection Bay!

Matanuska Glacier on the Glenn Highway has a nice campground. Beautiful area in the Chugach Mountains.

Alaska Hostel Webpage: http://www.alaskahostel.org/html/alaska_hostels.html
Camping/RV: $10-$20 or free if in the backcountry or off the road.
Hostel: $15-30
Hotel: $100-$300

You can get a room which has great views of Mt. McKinley. Nothing better then going to bed looking at the big one

looking for lodging in Talkeetna area

by swdke

Hi, I am looking for affordable loding in the Talkeetna area. Looking for something interesting, different, unique. It will be just a one night stay and looking for something relatively affordable. Would have liked to stay at the Talkeetna Chalet B & B, but they are booked. The Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge or the Princess Mt. McKinley Lodge located further north would be nice, but kind of expensive. Cabins could be fun, or a B & B. We're pretty much open and looking for suggestions. Thanks.

hi! i worked in talkeetna last summer and i would suggest 'the roadhouse' in downtown talkeetna. its quaint clean, gots flava. the breakfast in the morning is delectable too. homemade pies and pastries. the folks that own it are quite nice as well.
good luck!
