Nasty place to stay and very bad attitudes
I've lived in Alaska 40 years and have traveled all over this state for both business and pleasure and this was by far the worst place I’ve ever visited while traveling. These people are in the hospitality business but they have no idea what hospitality means. We were picked up at the train station in a little red sedan that smelled like a barn full of wet dogs and looked like one too. We were told the restaurant would be open and even called a few days in advance to confirm the reservation and check the weather but when we got there we were told the restaurant was closed for a private party. They never mentioned that nor were they the lease apologetic. The staff was rude and cold and could not have cared less. The place was run down and dirty and in the 3 days that we were there they never once cleaned the communal shower/restrooms. We knew the place was going to be rustic, but there is no excuse for such filth. These folks have no pride of ownership! How sad, because we heard from other businesses in the area that at one time this was a nice place. Bottom line…look elsewhere for your accommodations while in Denali.

Unique Quality: There are none

This last summer, my wife and I stayed at Denali Perch Resort and it was great! Its 12 miles south of south of the parks entrance, which is awesome because it it gets you away from the big hotels and the touristy area. They have a fine dining restaurant and a pizza pub on the property, so if you're looking for an excellent steak dinner with a view they have it, or if you're looking for a pub environment with a few beers and shots they have it as well. The cabins themselves sit right by a creek, they are very cozy and have a rustic feel, which is what my wife and I were looking for. So if you're looking for a real Alaskan spot to stay, this is where I would send my family and friends!

Unique Quality: The view was the best around! The resort is away from the entrance so you don't have to hear the load traffic from the large tour busses. The park entrance itself is full of cheap touristy garbage that you can buy for under a dollar, think last minute gift from a pharmacy. Thank goodness we stayed at The Perch

Directions: Drive north from Anchorage and turn right before Carlo Creek bridge.
