Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge: Inside our cabin

This photo shows the interior of our cabin, the Kittiwake, at Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge. The rooms were extremely comfortable and very charming! The owners paid a lot of attention to detail in decorating the units

Kachemak Bay State Park Campground: Rough it on a stunningly gorgeous beach

A very beautiful primitive campground is located at the mouth of Tutka Bay on the shore. This was also the trailhead for our hike up Grace Ridge. Take a water taxi from Homer to reach this campground. This photo was taken from the campground.

Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge: The Kittiwake Cabin

This was our cabin at the Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge. It is the little log building dead center in the picture. Isn't it cute? It is named the Kittiwake after a gull commonly found in Alaska, and often mistaken for the common sea gull.

Our cabin was plenty big enough for our family of four. The first floor had a large room with a king size bed, sitting area, wood burning stove, and bathroom. The kids slept in the upstairs loft, where there were 5 singles beds. We had a TV which did not get TV reception (no TV reception at the lodge at all), but we could use it to play the videos in the main room library and to view our digital photos.

Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge: Remote, beautiful, perfect!

Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge is my kind of place. It is in a beautiful remote location and is a small, family-owned and and run by fabulous hosts, has comfortable cabins, FANTASTIC food. I highly recommend this lodge. I fell in love with it instantly. We stayed here only 4 nights, but I could have stayed here for 1122 days, and not tired of it.

"Wilderness" does not equate with rustic, although the owners have retained the rustic touches in the decor. However, the lodge provides every comfort. All meals are included.

The grounds are gorgeous, and the meals are all home cooked. The best food we had during out 2-1/2 week Alaskan vacation was here. The owner, Nelda and her daughter Christy, are the very accomplished chefs, and they are incredibly creative in cooking local dishes.

The lodge is a perfect base for many activities, such as hiking, halibut fishing, kayaking, and bear watching. The owners will arrange these activities for you. The staff will serve as knowledgeable guides and will shuttle you around by boat to hiking trail heads.

We will undoubtedly come here again. It was a perfect location. Absolutely the best!
