Kalsin Bay Inn: Local Inn

For a very rustic accomodation you might like the Kalsin Bay Inn. There are rooms for rent that aren't on the side of luxury but will give you a real Alaskan feel!! I've had friends stay here before that have come for a fishing trip to Kodiak and they wanted to be closer to the Pasagshak area and not have to drive the long bumpy ride to town each morning and evening.

There is a restuarant right there too. They serve local seafood as well as Hamburgers and your regular fare. If you are a vegetarian you might want to pack your own food!!

Close to fishing at the Olds River , Rosalyn Creek and Pasagshak River. Rooms are $75 for a Single and $85 for a Double. If you want to stay at peak fishing or hunting times you will want to book your room in advance as these times fill up Fast!!

camping: Look for this sign....

If you want to get to the beach this is the sign that you will be looking for. It is on the left hand side of the road right across from the Kalsin Pond. Even though the land around the beach is privately owned there is a Bureau of Land Mangagement access road which allows you to cross the property.

make your own name...LOL: Camping at the beach!!

If you pass through the Bureau of Land Management access road (which is located at about mile 31 on the Chiniak Highway and located very near the Kalsin Pond). Drive along the access road and you will see the mouth of the river. And plenty of Beach!! If you are driving a car be very careful as the sand can be very soft in places. I have seen many people get stuck in these areas!! The camping is great and if the wind is blowing there are some small cliffs that offer some shelter. There isn't any facilities at the beach so you would have to bring anything you will need. And the toilets are your choice of the local bushes!! Unless it's been raining there is plenty of dry drift wood for making a fire!!

It's such a great place to enjoy the sounds of the surf and you will be able to hear the cows mooing all through the night also. I've never seen any bears in this area but there are some possibilities of them joining you so keep a clean camp to avoid any problems!!
Also Clean up when you leave!! One time when I went there the previous campers had left a big mess which I cleaned up!!! Some People!! You can dress them up but they need to stay home!!!

Northland Ranch Resort: The sign to look for

I just wanted to show what the sign looks like as the resort is really much more than a double wide house trailer. The original Resort building burnt down a few years back. If you're expecting swimming pools and luxury service this will NOT be the place for you!! But if you want a great Alaskan experience you will probably like it here.

Northland Ranch Resort: Back Country Adventures!!

I haven't stayed at the Northland Ranch Resort and I don't know anyone that has but it sure looks like a fun place for the person that wants to experience some of the backcountry that Kodiak has to offer. I've driven by it many times but have never stopped to see it. They offer Horseback Riding, and accomodations for fisherman and hunters and photographers!!
