Cape Fox Lodge for Art & Views

We found this hotel by accident really. It happens to be a the terminus of the funicular which begins on Creek Street. A newer hotel, it seems a nice place if you are staying in Ketchikan. It has a nice lobby, nice coffee shop, and the Heen Kahidi Restaurant on the premises. Just off the lobby are 2 computers with free internet access and I admit though I wasn't a guest, I used one of the computers to check my VT page while there! The hotel also has Alaskan art and artifacts displayed in several places around the hotel. The most interesting feature of the hotel was the "Circle of the Clan" totem pole groupings in the rear of the hotel. This was such a popular feature that it was really difficult to get a decent shot of the totems without having people in the picture! The coffee shop also seemed to be a popular place and we stopped in for hot chocolate ourselves.

Expect to extend your budget if you stay here. Winter rates (2006 prices) are $150 + tax for ountain view; $160 + for water view; Summer $190 for mountain view; $200 for water view. Suites $251. Complimentary parking is included. Some packages include breakfast at the Heen Kahidi Restaurant.

Unique Quality: The attraction for this hotel would probably be its emphasis on Alaskan tribal art, particularly "The Circle of the Clan" totems and the ski lodge type construction. The hotel is just near the Ted Ferry Civic Center in case you are attending a function there.
