Eider House is a very nice B&B down in the Woman's Bay area about 10 miles south of town, it's a bit of a drive to get to Kodiak where most everything else is but as a plus its in prime bear viewing territory.
My grandson called it a bed and no breakfast after we explained what a B&B is. But we stayed here for a week while waiting for our house purchase to finalize and felt comfortable and at home. It is more like a one bedroom apartment with a fully stocked kitchen, a partial view of the water through the trees and a roomy king size bed. Living room has a couch, an easy chair and cable TV with a breakfast bar. Washer and dryer and en suite bathroom. Very private.
My wife proclaimed it the cleanest B&B we have ever stayed at. I don't normally notice such things but I had to agree with her. Spotless.
The house is built on the side of a very steep hill and the apartment is at the bottom of a long and steep staircase. Wasn't too bad until the day we were moving out and had to get up the stairs with all our luggage and six inches of fresh snow. Also has a nice deck just out the door.
Private, clean and very comfortable.
We have been staying at the Salmon Run Guesthouse for 10 days now and are very happy with our choice. Private entrance, private baths, continental breakfast, fully equiped kitchen, TV, off street parking, fully furnished, washer and dryer, and an extensive DVD collection for those rainy days. Very clean.
Treena and Roy Breyfogle converted 3 apartments into a clean and cheerful place to stay and they live in the second story. Up on the hill overlooking downtown yet still within easy walking distance of downtown.
Ended up spending over a month here and felt very much at home. Be sure to ask about long term rates. We started out in the 2 bedroom and then when it was just me moved over to the one bedroom.
Quiet spot with a partial view of the ocean and yet close to everything.
There are many local homes that run Bed And Breakfasts. Some are in beautiful settings such as these on Millbay and others are in residential areas. None of these are cheap either. You can check out the website that I've listed below and you can find all of the Bed and breakfasts on Kodiak listed there.
If you are an American Serviceman (or woman) traveling in the Kodiak Area who comes to injury, you may find yourself being housed here- the United States Coast Guard Medical Facility. It's a mostly outpatient setup, rumor has it the dentists are maniacal.

Nothing is better than waking up on the Beach at Pashagshak and having 150 buffalo walking around your tent!! Sunshine makes it nice too. But be prepared as the weather can change overnight!! Or During the night!!!
Fresh air, wild animals, solitude, sometimes you can see Killer whales, Seals , Stellar Sea Lions or Otters off the beach!!
There are remote cabins available around the Island. You can check with the Kodiak Island Chamber of Commerce for a list of them.
Allows you to be out in the wilderness without having to pack a tent. And gives you something a little more solid between you and the Kodiak Brown Bear!
