My husband and I will be driving a rental car in June from Valdez to Talkeetna and I'm wondering about the road conditions through Hatcher Pass - I don't think we're supposed to drive on gravel roads. If it's really rough conditions, is it still worth the time to drive up to Hatcher Pass from Palmer, then turn around and retrace our steps to drive to Talkeetna via Wasilla? Thanks -
Re: Hatcher Pass
There are two seasons In Alaska Winter and Construction. June is the Latter. The roads are paved but a heavy Construction project is going on right before Palmer. Most of the Alaskan Car rental Places Understand That there will be areas that are under Construction. Best Policy would be to ask the Local office that you will pick the car up from.
Travel Tips for Palmer
People watching at the State Fair
The State Fair is fun for everyone, and people watching is one of my favorite activities. There is nothing better than people having a good time, so put on your fancy duds, get your hair done, and dive into that cotton-candy and caramel apple These two girls just stole my heart. They are so cute. Don't you just love them!
Palmer is located in the center of the lush farmlands of the Matanuska Valley, 42 miles northeast of Anchorage on the Glenn Highway. It's a small, quiet place, surrounded by breathtaking Alaska scenery. Rivers, lakes, mountains, glaciers, abundant wildlife. Spend some time in Palmer and experience Alaska at its best. We spent 2 nights in Palmer in 2 different and very nice B&B Inns.
