    The views from here is great you can see the bay, boats, the weather moving over the mountains I use to kick back in the bar all day in the winter watching the weather around us. Sitka sits right in front of the Pacific Ocean and no mater what time of year you get great view from the rooms, restaurant and bar.

    The Shee Atika is about as central as you can get in Sitka. It's not a big town, as I've stated before and the other hotels (not the B&Bs) are about a 3 minute walk from this one. But the Shee Atika is definitely one of the "landmarks" in SItka. Like most of them, it's going to be over $100 a night, even in the off season, I believe. But unlike Totem Square (also owned by Westmark), this one is open all year long.
    It's a normal hotel, offering great views of Cresent Harbor and downtown. The restaurant and bar attached to the hotel are good places to eat, you have the convenience of a bank on the ground floor. Shops and sites are very close by.

    Like I said it's open all year, that's a benefit. Also, the airporter shuttle will take you here from Sitka Airport. You WILL be flying in on Alaska Airlines and the hotel offers miles. (That's a great mileage program, but the way--the AK airlines one...if you can figure out how to fly w/ them frequently)

    Located in the heart of downtown Sitka, The Westmark Sitka, as it is now called, is a decent hotel. The Westmark chain continues to grow and this is one of their better hotels.
    101 spacious rooms. All the usual ammenities. Across the street from the new convention center and about two blocks from the waterfront. So a good location with just about everything within walking distance from the hotel. Try and get a room on the upper floors to ensure a water view. My 6th floor room had a great view of Sitka Sound.
    The hotel has a dining room that served up good food and there are multiple choices near by. The bar is large and clean and had a surprising number of locals the nights I stopped in.

    Tip: There are 6 hotels and 25 B&Bs in Sitka, BUT, they are almost always full in the summer. Book early! Sitka CVB has a complete listing at www.sitka.org . They won't give any recommendations.

    The view from the upper floors is outstanding - anything above the 4th gives you a good view of Sitka Sound.

  • I've stayed there two or three times and will do so again in about a week. The rooms are very pleasant, quiet and clean. Desk clerks are helpful and well-informed. Location is excellent - close to the center of town and very close to the conference center. Their meals are fine, but it's easy to eat "down the street", too since everything in downtown Sitka is walkable. Sheldon Jackson Museum and totem park are walkable, in the direction away from downtown.

    The only complaint I have had about this hotel is that they don't really do room service for dinner. Once I was told, "You can come down and pick up the food, then take it to your room"! They lack personnel for this service so if the dining room is busy, your room service will not be coming up to you!

    It's well served by the airport bus for pick up and drop off.

    I strongly recommend this as the place to stay in Sitka.

    The lobby has some very nice Northwest Coast Indian decor. Views from either side of hotel are very pretty.
